Yup, as a prequel this film doesn't work at all. It wastes 45+ minutes trying to create a suspense that only exists for those who haven't seen the first 2 films (errr... we KNOW they are werewolves... 
), not to mention all the spiritual new age mumbo jumbo silliness. But as a standalone film, it's still a tad above your common horror film fare, mostly due to the two leads.
