FINALLY!!!!
From the bits:

After what seems like an eternity of waiting, Universal will finally give us a two-disc special edition of Double Indemnity (1944) on August 29th. There are no details on content as yet. Let's hope this is a Legacy Series edition and one at least as good as that for To Kill a Mockingbird.

DVD Times are reporting on it as well, so it seems like it's really happening!

Great news if it holds. Looking forward to dumping my vhs of this considering I never felt compelled to pay the outrageous price the OOP Image release was going for.

From DVDActive:
http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...indemnity.html
Universal Home Video has sent over artwork for the special edition of Double Indemnity which stars Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson. This two-disc DVD will be available to own from the 29th August, and should set you back around $26.98 in total. I'm afraid the disc specs have yet to be revealed, but we'll bring you further details shortly.

I just pre-ordered mine on Amazon. I've wanted a good version of this since my film teacher showed us the first reel of it on film, and then promptly cut it because our class was over! And the print was on loan, so we didn't have another chance to see it. We wasted an hour and a half of the class watching Mildred Pierce, which was some of the most melodramatic dreck I have ever seen. I'll never forgive that teacher for teasing us with just a snippet of one of the best noir films and then snatching it right from under us.

Sold my old one on ebay last week. This new one looks great...but the REMAKE as a bonus feature? Give me a feature length doc over some TV movie remake of a classic film any day.
