This is great news. But why couldn't they go the extra mile to at least get an interview with Amy Linker? Given how accessible she has been for TV Land stuff over the past couple years, I bet she would have agreed to do something for the release. It would have also been nice to have some sort of essay or interview as to why the show ended so quickly. The final extra I wanted was the complete 'Open 24 Hours' discography, but who knows if those tapes are even still around.

Square Pegs: The Complete Series
So, is every song from each broadcast present? It sure seems that way; my memory isn't that great, and I don't have the episodes on tape to compare, so I'll leave it to more obsessive folks to vet this with certainty. The episodes sure seem audio-complete, down to the corny laugh track.

That's good enough for me!

The absence of one Billy Idol song won't stop me from buying it, but I figure it's worth mentioning in this thread.

TITLE: SQUARE PEGS - THE LIKE, TOTALLY COMPLETE SERIES... TOTALLY
Square Pegs used quite a bit of original music - mostly new wave songs. These were mostly played on the jukebox at "The Grease" or on the school radio station. I don't have any original broadcasts, so I can't say for sure if all the music is intact. There's nothing on the packaging to indicate that any of the music has been changed or that the episodes have been edited. I can say that all of the original performances by The Waitresses and Devo are present on the DVD. Also, it looks like all of the original cast performances, including the songs by Johnny's band, are included. The only song for sure that I can say that has been changed is in the "No Subsitutions" episode. In the original episode, Bill Murray and Sarah Jessica Parker dance to Billy Idol's "Dancing with Myself." On the DVD, the song is replaced with an unidentified song. I noticed that "Dancing with Myself" was also used on the episode that was available on Comcast's On Demand Tube Time channel. Overall, it looks like many of the original songs with lyrics are included.

That's too bad, but at least it didn't impact the release of the series. I wonder if that's why they never showed 'No Substitutions' on TVLand and I also don't think they showed it during Nick's 80's weekend marathons. It would have been nice to check the version on AOL's In2TV, but for some reason they pulled the SP eps right around the time the set was announced.
...I just bought the unbox version, and it has 'Dancing With Myself' during that scene. I'm tempted to purchase the rest of the episodes and compare them to the DVD set. I assume iTunes has the same edits for their digital episodes.
So far I'm through disc 1, but I'm very happy with this set. The episodes look great, the only thing I could aks for was an alternate audio to ditch the laught track. I'm glad they decided to interview more of the cast than SJP. I would have never recognized Claudette Wells today. I owuld also have been nice to include promo photos and stuff, I have a bunch.

I'm glad to hear that Square Pegs is finally released on DVD.
I would have purchased it 4 years ago when I first started this thread; however, I can't justify the cost now. I know it won't get repeat viewings.
Hell, I sold my WKRP season 1 to a secondhand music store and I didn't get around watching the whole thing.
Hmm, come to think of it, I still haven't gotten around watching The Ben Stiller show either.

However, I never got around to picking up WKRP...I was too bothered by all the music/scene changes I read about. Same story with Bosom Buddies. Both shows I really wanted on DVD, but not in the way they came out on DVD.

In case anyone was interested, the following is a list of music replacement I noticed between the Amazon Unbox downloads (which seem to be the "original" airings) and the Sony DVD's.
EP 01 - outside before dance, Unbox version has a B-52's song playing
EP 02 - inside Grease @ 17:20, short song is different
EP 10 - song in opening scene @ Grease is different
EP 11 - song in Grease @ 21:30, Unbox has "Christmas Wrapping" (which goes along with the story, Patty and Lauren not being able to go to X-mas parties/ hang out together)
EP 13 - song in hallway @ 16:00 different, DVD's have what sounds like a Cars song
EP 14 - song in Grease @ 4:07, Unbox has "Hot in the City" by Billy Idol (it's also louder in the mix than the song on the DVD)
EP 14 - song in Grease @ 12:10 is different, both very low in mix
EP 16 - song in Grease @ 9:18, Unbox has "White Wedding" by Billy Idol
EP 16 - song in Grease @ 16:35, "White Wedding" again
EP 16 - song in Grease @ 22:28, "White Wedding" again (goes along with the episodes story & what Muffy says)
EP 17 - song in Grease @ 10:18 is different, familiar song but I can't place it, very low in mix
EP 17 - Song in Grease @ 13:00, Unbox has "Dancing With Myself" (goes along with the scene and story, Patty and Lauren divided over which teacher is "best")
EP 18 - song in Grease @ 5:00, Unbox has "Metro" by Berlin
EP 18 - background music behind dream montage @ 16:00, unbox has a "jazzy" "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" (which goes with the scene and story)
It appears that some may have been changed for rights reasons (mostly Billy Idol songs), but some left me scratching my head. The replaced song in EP 02 is literally 10 seconds before it fades out of the mix and the "Take Me Out..." track sounds like it came right out of a studio music library- but I guess it could be from a known artist. Aside from "Christmas Wrapping", "White Wedding", "Dancing With Myself" and "Take Me Out...", the music changes don't really seem out of place compared to the replacement songs.
And a quick comment about the video quality. It's watchable, but much lower quality than the DVD's and definitely from different prints. And for some reason there are several glitches throughout many of the episodes and in one episode the fade in from the commercial has audio but no video for about 5 seconds. I've purchased other videos from Unbox before, including TV shows, and none have looked this bad or had glitches. I'm going to email Amazon about that and let them know.
