The new release doesn't even come from a "print" the way we think of it. It was painstakingly assembled from numerous sources. They looked over multiple prints and chose the best source material for each scene, restoring on a shot-by-shot basis.

Again, the 98 release looks good, but it's too stark and contrasty compared to the newer transfer.
