Why can't the release as a "Superbit" the 1st time around.

I never double dip, so I will pickup the Nov 30th edtion and just be happy with that.

Because only about 0.0001% of DVD buyers visit Web sites about DVDs.

Aside from the double dip comments, it's funny how these "additions and director cuts" are accepted, and yet Lucas changes some stuff and all hell breaks loose.

But that 0.0001 always seems to find this site to bitch about it. There was a longer Lord of the Rings coming out? Who knew?!!??!1111

Yep, and there is the .00001% of people who like to deliver Sermon on the Mounts - basically whining about people just saying Sony's marketing plans are hurtful to the consumer

I'm still going to buy one of the versions next month, I want to be able to show it to my family over the holidays. I'm just waiting for some reviews so I can decide which version to get.

If the director's cut is said to improve the film (since some director's cut do NOT,) I'll most definitely get it, though I'll probably be able to hold out for the Super-Ultra-Special-Deluxe-Limited Director's Cut Edition that's released a few years (months?) after the first release of that version.

Superbit for me.

The extended seems more like ego (not extreme but ego in the sense that the things Raimi has mentioned being put back in seem as they are to be added because now he can and not because they move the plot along or make the film any better) and cash grab.

Beyond the 2.5, a deluxe release should probably come out with a movie ticket just before Spiderman 3 goes on screen. Just speculating

Director Raimi To Film New Scenes for 'Spider-Man 2.5'

Not only does Sony plan to release the Spider-Man 2 DVD in November, but it also plans to release Spider-Man 2.5, with additional action and effects scenes next year, director Sam Raimi has told the website IGN.com. It is really not a matter of his wanting to release a director's extended cut of the film, Raimi indicated. "Sony said to me, 'We want to release a 2.5,' because they want to make more money. It's not really that I had some scenes to put in. The movie really was the best I could make it. It's not like I think I could make it better." Asked why the studio is waiting until next year to release the extended version, Raimi responded: "It's just a financial decision by the studio. They know that people who liked the second movie would want to own it as it is on DVD, and then it's just a gamble. 'Oh, if we spend another four million dollars, can we make another ten million dollars?' I think that's how it works."

I wonder if all of the new scenes are just CGI?

I'll probably skip Spidey 2.5 since it looks like the new footage is going to be minimal at best.

I wouldn't say ego, exactly; it sounds like the company was gonna do the cash grab anyway, and Raimi balked at participating until they gave him money to film stuff he wanted to do initially but didn't have the budget to do. I wish more studios did business that way (but, then again, I wish more blockbusters were directed by folks like Raimi or Jackson).
