i still think this is an anomaly as DVD Talk took it off their release list.

Daytripper 06-27-04 06:58 PM

OH NO! I'm not falling for this again. I'll believe it when I trip over it at Best Buy.

Here's hoping...

It's listed on Universal's site and is available for pre-order just about everywhere.

It will be nice to own this DVD again. I was lucky enough to get a copy from Amazon last year before they sold out, but decided to sell it for a profit after watching it once. Figured it would eventually get released.

Got one of the few that slipped through last time, it really is an excellent DVD.

QuiGonJosh 06-28-04 04:50 AM

I had it but could not resist the temptation to make some serious money on a $14.00 dvd that I knew would be released in the future. Believe I sold my copy last year for around $75.00. :)

I checked Deep Discount Dvd to pre-order this and it isn't listed.
Will this be available on August 17th or not?

Its up on all the other sites i usually check (dvdempire, digitaleyes, etc.) so i would expect it to be released. Maybe you should pre-order it from amazon, just in case it gets cancelled again :)

This is going to be the 90 minute version right?

Yup...at least the one that came out last year was, and this is apparently the same disc.

It's about freakin' time. I was so inspired by this movie when I saw it on t.v. back in 1979 and I was only 9 years old. I haven't seen this in years, but I do recall it had some pretty innovative camera shots for it's time.

davey_4964 07-11-04 11:15 PM

I just recieved an email from Deep Discount Dvd saying DUEL is not available for ordering.

Heinrich 07-12-04 08:11 PM

I know it's a TV movie, but any chance it might be getting an anamorphic presentation? Does anybody know if it was shot on a film stock that's suitable for an anamorphic showing?

OldBoy 07-12-04 08:13 PM

oh well...a gone it goes again!!!

OldBoy 07-12-04 08:17 PM

Why is this movie so sought after and highly coveted anyway? It wasn't that great of a movie...by today's, yesteryear's, and critical standards. Someone please tell me.

Got to agree, apart from getting Spielberg's career off the ground, it really isn't all that great. I certainly don't think it's worth owning and watching more than once.

Because a lot of people disagree with you?

We can certainly agree to disagree, but I thought it was a great movie. I think it built up quite a bit of tension as the chase went on and of course never seeing the driver is what really nails it. The most memorable scene for me is when he is sleeping by the railroad tracks and the train wakes him up.

Well, I suppose the answer is that what you are stating is YOUR opinion, and not everyone elses.

Your statement about standards is very questionable.

* Today's -- Many people find this to be an enjoyable thriller, even "today". Especially for a made for TV film.

* Yesteryear's -- How many 1970s made for TV films are of a higher standard than Duel?

* Critical -- this was a very well-received film, both with audiences and critics.
