Artman, are parts of the credits cut off? I've never seen this movie before but the credit sequence looked fine to me.

Got it at Best Buy today, and as soon as I spotted it on the shelf, I got instantly paranoid that someone would pull it off the shelf before I could get my hands on a copy. I watched it as soon as I got home, and had a John-In-VA experience of seeing the movie again for the first time.
Cheers! -the Jesus (now with a copy of Duel on DVD) :) |
Watching it now and it looks fine to me too. Im using a Mitsubisih 16x9 WS set.

The very next shot after the director credit - boom - clear to the edge of the screen. Wierd. I'd post pics if I had a camera. Strangely enough - the same type of thing happens on the other side of the screen when I play video games. It's like the viewing area is shifted over slightly. I only see a 'tilt' function on my menu though.. I'd be curious if anyone else with 4:3 flatscreen (mine's a VEGA) notices the same thing. |
Opening credits had the black strip on the left side for me as well. Perfectly fine after credits finish.

For a tv movie the transfer looks amazing
Great job Universal  Watching it with no commercials is so much better. Spielberg was really at the top of his game even then with so many great low camera shots and close ups I like near the end during the standoff when Weaver is standing on the road and the truck is stopped. There's on camera angle where the shot looks back at Weaver from behind the truck. Great stuff.. PS Anybody notice a blooper??..When Weaver is in the phone booth the first cut you can see Spielberg's reflection in the window he's wearing a white shirt and you also see somebodys hands |
Originally posted by Rammsteinfan As for his directorial debut... I guess they mean his first 75 minute TV movie or movie that was released in Theatres at 90 mins. Who knows what those marketing guys are doing... ;) |

This was great fun watching this film again except this time with a great image on a 65" screen with DTS surround. They did a fantastic job on this DVD.
I do have a question. If this is the US television version why did it show a PG rating at the end and include a bit of language that wouldn't have made air in the seventies? |
Picked this up yesterday at a local Wal-mart for only $11.68. I thought the movie looked great. Can't wait to go through the rest of the goodies on the disc.

The scene where he phones his wife, the scene with the railroad crossing, and a couple other things are added. |
