Lose your job and be forced to take a job paying less than half of what you're used to making.

I control my spending by not buying what I'm not interested in...

I have a budget for DVDs and Video Games. I only spend out of that and its only $100 a month. I will also add to it by selling games and movies I don't watch anymore and if its a slow month I will roll the balance over to the next. Any DVDs or games that don't fit in the budget go on a wish list and have to wait for a Deep Discount sale or something when I have more money.

Right now box sets are a priority for me, so they get first dibs on my money. Currently September is going to be a tough month. I've already cancelled Star Wars since it doesn't fit in the budget.

Currently for September I have
Futurama Vol 4 (really an August release but I combined it with Orient)
Murder on the Orient Express
Total $40.93

Mr Show Season 4
Clerks X
Total $44.08

Alfred Hitchcock Collection
Total $62.95

Thats around $150 for September and I added to my money by selling the original release of the Hitchcock movies in the new set on Ebay so I have right around $150 to cover. Thats why Star Wars got the boot since its the least important release to me of the group.

like I said many times before...if not for the cash tips I get on the job, my library would be much smaller right now. last week I only snagged about $100 in tips...when usually I get $150 and up. but trust me...if I only get $50 in tips this week, then I wont spend a penny higher. thats control, at least for me. that and never using credit. for dvds...it's cash only or nothing.

You've got a great system and your collection shows how well it works. I'd do the same if I was in your shoes.

But it's always fun to go browsing and making a good find. Just last Sunday I was looking around and spotted In My Skin. At first it didn't ring a bell... but then it hit me that I remember reading about the movie in Rue Morgue magazine. I didn't even know it was out on DVD yet!

This thread has inspired me to cut down on my excessive dvd spending. I shall begin my self-restraint in October or November.
