You think that's wild? I've added about 100 or so DVDs to my collection just in the last two or three months alone. Of course, much of that is because of the DDD sale, FYE mistake, and CH.

I just peaked over 1000 a little while back.

I've since curbed my DVD spending majorly though.

I've almost got 600, but I have aout 800 in my wishlist. Buying movies that I like keeps me sane for some reason.

Just topped 1100 w/ a couple more on pre-order. In total (minus special features) I have 226229mins 3770.5hours 157.1days worth of viewing pleasure available. That should keep me busy/out of trouble for a little while

I'm hovering at around 1666, not counting a few imports and bootleg discs.

According to my DVDaficionado list, I own 2581 titles with 14 more on order. (That's including hidden folders for future sales/trades and some especially unsavory and/or embarrassing films.) I hit the 2000 mark in January 2006 -- various DDD sales, continued (ab)use of Columbia House, and some big Hong Kong orders have really bloated the ol' library this year. I've probably watched over 60% of all the DVDs I've ever owned, so there does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel.

I've been buying DVDs for about four and a half years. The purchase of a 65" rear-projection TV is what really kicked off the habit. When I first started collecting, there were only a few dozen titles I wanted to own -- mainly well-known comedies, horror, and science fiction. The DVD format (in conjunction with informative sites like DVD Talk, where I've lurked for years) has made it possible for me to appreciate a broader spectrum of cinema than I ever would have thought possible. My appreciation of film has also deepened considerably.

Except for Hong Kong movies (about a quarter of my collection), I consider myself a selective collector. Increasingly, I'm avoiding a lot of mainstream Hollywood fare that I anticipate would not have lasting value for me. If I know I'll never want to watch something again, I'll try to get rid of it. I've sold/traded over 400 DVDs so far.

I'm also quite cheap about getting the best price for DVDs. If a title will be available at Columbia House, I almost always go that route (average of ~$6 per DVD). For other domestic titles, I usually wait for the semi-annual DeepDiscountDVD sale or use store credit and coupons at DVDPlanet/DigitalEyes. I have such a backlog of unwatched DVDs that I don't mind waiting a few months for most new releases.

I have no interest in HD-DVD/Blu-ray until the market selects a winning format. At that time, I will double-dip for a small number of essential films -- maybe more, if I can get HD/BR discs at Columbia House prices. Anyway, much of my collection is obscure/foreign/TV-based material that will not be re-released in HD/BR for many years, if ever.

I'm just about to hit 2500 (at 2471 right now). And now that I've recently gone region free, I expect that number to get quite a bit larger.

Kim Olav Svines, there is no way that you like all the movies you buy. Do you?

I used to keep an accurate count of my DVD collection, but not anymore. Since I've begin selling DVDs I didn't like after viewing, and purchase new releases, my collection is often variable.

I doubt it very much. It's impossible. The one million dollar question is: Have they all been previously viewed?

I mean, if you have 2000 to 6000 DVDs, that pretty much says you buy everything that comes out, whether you saw it or not. Why? Even if you are buying simply for collecting purposes, how often does one of your DVDs turn into a Salo? Just about never. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me but that's just my opinion.

Your not alone! I concur with you one hundred percent. It's senseless. I've bet over half of his DVDs are still unopened.

Now that I've reached the 1,000 mark, I'm finding it hard to find too many already released DVDs that I'm interested in. I'd also like to note that even though I have 1,000+ DVDs now, I more than likely only spent enough that would match most of you who only own about 500, or maybe even less. I'm a total "buy used" type of guy, and if I can't get them used then I'll find some way to get what I want for a really, really good price.

No, it's not a misspelling... it's a genre.

It's only senseless to YOU. Some people like to collect those little spoons that you find in tourist shops. Why buy a spoon you never use?

There are worse things a person can spend money on. If someone wants to have a nice collection of DVDs, more power to 'em.

I used to own about 250: I now own about 30. I phased out most of them several years ago when the prices were still worth it. I just looked at it from the point that I would never watch most of them again.

For the people who say it's a waste... Well, your at a DVD Talk site. Of course your going to come across people with large collections. This shouldn't be surprising. I'm sure some of the people here have enough money that it's not an issue.

The quanity of DVDs you may have doesn't matter. A person can have 50,000 DVDs and seventy five percent of them could be bad movies from blind purchases. It's the quality of good movies that makes a nice collection, not the quanity.

Who cares about the quality or quantity? Bad or not, if I like the movie or TV series, I will buy it regardless of what people say.

You've never seen the NC-17 version of Agnes of God?
