There are a few reasons to buy other then just viewing them. I have a section of 30 dvds for the kids that maybe I have seen half but don't care if I never see them. If I buy to sell it isn't counted in my collection. Sometimes I buy to finish out a set or collection. I never finished viewing Space 1999 but one rainy day I may. At one time I would have gotten all the Batman movies because I love 1 and 2 but controled myself. Not all the Hellraiser movies are good but I have and seen them all. A few I will not rewatch but I will not sell them, same with Nighmare on Elm street. I have all the X-files but do not watch all the shows over, I have my favorites. On the other hand I was able to purchase all 3 seasons of Beastmaster, viewed them all and sold them. I got them for $20 each, never saw the show on TV but love the original movie so gave it a chance.

P.S. I count a season of a show as 1 even if it has 8 disks. If I counted how many disks I have it would be well over 2000. There are a ton of movies that I want but will not buy because it isn't in my budget. At one time I didn't think I would pass over 300 but realized that was just wishful thinking. I love Sci-Fi and will watch it till I die. :)

All the glorious coupon days. That's how I got the bulk of my collection too...

I believe that I'm close to 2000

Sorry to say so am i.

clckworang 08-23-04 03:25 PM

I am proud to say that I am over the 1,000 mark.

Josh H 08-23-04 03:33 PM

Only around 135 here and I've had a player for about 6 years!

Dabaomb 08-23-04 04:23 PM

I'm a member of the 800 club. Probably hit the 1000 club in about a year or so.

Jboone 08-23-04 05:14 PM

Closing in on the 400 club.

wrinkleintime 08-23-04 08:47 PM

Nearing the 2000 mark...

cisco1959 08-23-04 09:27 PM

1110 and counting...

astrophore 08-23-04 09:38 PM

I stopped counting at around 1200. I'm probably north of 1500 now, although I bought my first DVD player in 1998, so I've been at this a while. I bet I've probably only watched 400 of those discs. But you never know when the others will come in handy.

I'd say I'm happy with 95% of my collection -- I used to buy more mass market new releases than I do now, but the advent of plentiful used DVD markets make that unnecessary. Anything semi-popular (and even some arthouse films) will be available for $10 or less in six months.

'there is only about 100 left that I want. 1000 seems a long way away.'

That's what I thought about 700 DVDs ago. :)

'with so many imports grabbing my attention, finding a mix of that and domestic films that I still dont have is too easy.'

Ditto. In the past year my collection grew by about 800 DVDs. There so many interesting movies outside the US I couldn't imagine owning 200 DVDs anymore.

About Netfix, I sorta live outside the US, so that's not even an option for me.

'I cant help it if I own 3 copies of Tenebre'

Ditto here. Hero and The Killer are just too good. You just can't have ONE copy of those movies. :)

I bought my first player on Boxing Day 1998, and by Sep 2003, I had 135. My collection really blew up since then. I WILL watch everything I own, it's just a question of when.

I have many doubles which are in DVDprofiler and DVDaf, some I'll keep, some I should take out. I also have many box sets. DVD profiler says I own 891, but with the doubles I should get rid of, and the set that have more than one movie, I'm proababy around 950 movies owned. The DVDprofiler number will probably go north of 1000 by November. The problem with me is when I see 'LE', I have to buy. :)

I buy movies because I love them. I'm not a businessman so all the doubles I just give away; I've never used Ebay or anything like that to get rid of titles. I'm a collector. I buy DVDs I want, whether they're hard to find or not. I buy whatever I can in stores over here and get the rest by Internet.

darkside 08-23-04 11:49 PM

Over 800 and a 1000 is easily reachable. Its just a matter of money because something I want is always being released.

I started in 1998 and was a gluton during the cheap DVD days of the late 90's. My collection has had to grow much slower the last few years, but there is still a large number of films and shows I want on DVD.

John Sinnott 08-24-04 07:03 AM

I had over 2000 before I started reviewing, now it's near 2500.

starving dvder 08-24-04 07:55 AM

I am closing in on 1300.:)

Deadman31 08-24-04 07:56 AM

According to DVDaf I have

851 listings and 1020 titles

I plan on going through and thinning out very soon.

Just...Damn.

PHMustang2000 08-29-04 09:50 AM

I only have 78 DVD's right now but if I were to buy every dvd I have in my wishlist on DVDAf it would go up to about 1030

BJacks 08-29-04 12:02 PM

Around 850 for me. I'll probably hit 1000 before the end of the year. I plan to thin out the herd soon though.

buckee1 08-29-04 12:03 PM

I have 1300+ but have'nt uploaded anything to my profiler for at least 3 mos. I probably have another 75-100 titles to add.

Kmical 08-30-04 11:34 AM

I topped 1000 earlier this month - and I'm currently up to 1047.

Needing to clear some space for new titles, I went through the rows to pull some that I could sell on dvds123.com.

Found the Criterion version of "The Killer" - didn't even remember that I had it ...

Is e-Bay the best place to get rid of titles like this for cash? dvds123 is only offering $77 for it.

khiladi 08-30-04 03:37 PM

almost 700

I had 675 in profiler, last year I buy a lot but I soped recently. But I never sell my collection, I had god and bad movies but I still love my collection ^__^

When I first started collecting dvds, I bought everything I could. Not anymore. I usually just buy 2 or 3 dvds a month if that. (And they are usually catalog titles or tv box sets)
I'm with you also. The DVD collecting fad has passed in my life (thank god). I hardly buy DVD's anymore and am always looking to cut down the size of my current collection, which is around 200.
