you mentioned age, and I agree with you on those points. another thing is...when yer 40 or over, you tend to be a bit more stable than some of the younger crowd...meaning $ is easier to come by and you can explore deeper into the film world as far as building and maintaing a library goes. if the $ is there....and you have a wide taste...you just might end up with all the titles you've ever wanted, and thats my goal. also, being a completist helps add to the total. I cant help it if I own 3 copies of Tenebre.:p

it's not about being rich. I budget and channel my $ in a very wise fashion.:D more like it, I bust my ass 60 to 70 hours a week, so I better have something to spend on "fun".:thumbsup:

Sorry, but if you can only find 150 movies ALL-TIME that you find worth owning, you just aren't a huge movie fan. Nothing wrong with that, but it's the truth.

i like most of the movies i have - hell, i better (i could've bought a new car or a kick-ass A/V setup w/ the amount i spent/spend). The ones i don't particularly like are either blind buys, poor transfers, or "lesser" versions that i'm thinking of upgrading.

no i only buy movies that i really love. something i know that people with 1000s dont do. however, im also not a spender by nature. im just not. sometimes it takes me months to justify buying a dvd. i wish i had more cash but i dont.

I'm with you on that. I just sold a shit load a month back and am still trying to get rid of about 50. Without those fifty I have about 140-150 owned. And that is too many. When I first started collecting dvds, I bought everything I could. Not anymore. I usually just buy 2 or 3 dvds a month if that. (And they are usually catalog titles or tv box sets)

I got a rather large collection for my one room condo and I get rid off the ones I do not like or have no value to me.

... I suppose I can see your perspective to some extent on those guys with in the neighborhood of 6000 DVDs and I would venture to say that their income to debt ratio allows them to be less selective (though still selective...) in their DVD pursuits than some of the rest of us. :)

there are varying degrees you see... someone like you could be considered "extremely" selective... or cheap ... one of the two :P ;)

i'm at about 200, and a month ago i'd say i could grow it to 1000 in a year, but now I sing another song.


My main problem was the worry of something going OOP or not being able to find it, or spending more then i'd have to, so i'd pre order everything that was affordable and not worry about it. But since then i've relized i'll always be able to buy the dvds, somehow some way, so why be in a rush? Now I only buy movies i really really enjoy or something to finish off a "set" (i.e national lampoon's christmas vacation).... but i'm in no real rush!

Again, if you can only find 150 movies tops of all time that you love in one way or another, your tastes aren't as broad as many. Maybe that's why you have trouble thinking of X number of titles to own. I myself could think of 150 in each genre that I would love to own. To each his own I guess.

And why on earth would anyone feel like a glutton for owning movies they love/enjoy :hscratch:?

for what it's worth, anyway. I've been working on completing other genres and need to place another order for some nunstuff.with one of my fave titles, you'll notice I have 4 dvds ... it's just the 4 collectible covers.:D

i never questioned people who have collections at 500, 1000...hell even 2000. but 6000. sheesh. selective isnt the right term.

But some people just buy for the movie...where as I, like the special features.

To buy a dvd and not watch it is just plain STUPID. And some people buy a dvd just to say they bought one. And then that adds up over time. Unless you like to use them as dust collectors, why would you buy a dvd and not watch it?

I'm about 90 dvds away from the 1000 mark (of course, according to guzzlefish I'm like 150 away, but their counting system blows). I'd say I love about 90% of my movies and have another 10% that I just kind of like (or couldn't pass up a good deal on)...

I hope to have 1000 by the end of the summer... of course, that might not happen since I now have to start paying back my student loan! Ouch!

To the guy that is asuming that each dvd costs $10, the prices have dropped so that you can pick up many dvd for around $6.
Regarding, nunsploitation - there was actually a movie made in the 70s that could be put into that catagory. It features nuns who worshipped Satan, had sex orgies, and committed acts of violence. It was one of the few sex films that ever earned an x rating other that porno films. I can't recall the title.

I don't know anyone who buys a DVD with no intention of watching it, but I know a lot of people (myself included) who buy DVDs and don't get around to watching them for a long time.

people on this forum DO buy dvds for the sake of owning them...not watching them. not everyone but some.
