Some nice stuff there. Too much TV and not enough (no) classics. Try some Hitchcock

North by Northwest
Rear Window
Vertigo
Psycho

Or any of the excellent Warner 2-disks

Casablanca
Treasure of Sierra Madre
Singing in the Rain
Adventures of Robin Hood

Also give some foreign films a try. Almodovar movies are a hoot.

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Tie Me Up, Tie Me down
All About my Mother

or some Mexican Movies

La Ley de Herodes
Amores Perros
Y Tu Mama Tambien

Or some French Movies

Black Orpheus
Amelie
Grand Illusion

Or some Kurosawa Movies

Throne of Blood
Seven Samurai
Ran

Or some....

You get the picture. If you don't already have one, get a Netflix membership and use it to experiment. You might find a whole new genre of films to enjoy. Have fun!

I guess this was directed at my collection, no? If so, the reason why I don't have foreign films is that I hate and don't speak French. Although I do have Brotherhood of the Wolf and I guess you could say Crouching Tiger as well.

Cedrock 06-02-04 08:16 PM

yea thats enought tv shows, you got points from me for having family guys but lack simpsons and south park but i guess not interested or couldnt get around. Anyway id recommend you get some slashers friday the 13th halloween nightmare on elm street. Some basic greats like terminators, x-men LORD OF THE RINGS best movie ever. I love every movie of my collection , and id watch any one randomly. Some people get movies just to have on their shelves to look at and collect dust i get stuff id watch over and over.

BC_Lion 06-02-04 09:40 PM

shit i have simpsons season one to three i just forgot to put them on there same with desperado, my parents have theatrical editions of the lord of the rings and most new release movies and since i live at home i can just borrow theirs im just waiting till i have enoguh money to buy the extended editions of the lor of the rings trilogy im also wanting to get The Godfather Parts One and Two as well as Casablanca, Singing in the Rain, Bridge on the River Kwai, Versus, Seven Samurai, The Wild Bunch, The Searchers, Infernal Affairs, Hardboiled, The Killer.

Im also wating on special/collectors/ultra... editions of some movies such as goodfellas, the game, top gun, jurassic park, predator, kill bill and dawn of the dead (original)

svenge 06-02-04 09:56 PM

Anyone wanna rate/give suggestions for my collection?

conscience 06-02-04 10:30 PM

svenge,

your collection is alright (I own some of the films), but you lack your own edge. Most of the films you have are owned by millions of people. I see nothing that would make me say: oh he likes indie films from this director, or he likes this actor. All I get from it is I like blockbusters!

of course...that is my opinion and it is your collection.

demonio 06-02-04 10:34 PM

I'd give it a B-

BC_Lion 06-02-04 11:15 PM

svenge, you have a decent collection ome of those movies on there i wouldnt personally own but over all they are all good movies you have some greats on there like the princess bride, terminator, die hard , casablanca and Heat, iunno it just seems like you have a couple of weird choices such as addams family movies.

atari2600 06-02-04 11:45 PM

still worse than mine.

sven 06-03-04 04:33 AM

svenge is the person who stole my DVDaficionado name! And vice versa for this place I'll bet. Decent collection though. Loses a point for owning The Wizard of Oz though. I hate that movie.

I like the thread starters collection more even with all the Angel and Buffy heh.

Feel free to rate mine and reccomend anything you think I might like guy. But you can leave out foreign "classic" movies since I tend not to like many of either.

tacomantt 06-03-04 06:53 AM

The Wizard of Oz is a master piece. He gains plus two points for owning it and another two if he owns the boxset.

Bobby Shalom 06-03-04 12:55 PM

I second what Chente says.

They do make films outside of the US!

That's what the English subtitles are for.

I was thinkin the same exact thing.

MrVette99 06-03-04 03:51 PM

Greatest collection I've ever seen. :)

One suggestion though. You need more pool hustling movies. Whether or not you like pool or are a hustler, doesn't matter. It's uncool to not have them in your collection, and hot girls look for them in all collections. Trust me on this!!!!

They're not???

OK, I'll shoot one right back at ya. Are their Czech films? (Just being filmed in Prague doesn't count) Or how about Polish films? Now German, yes...just got the new Das Boot mini-series.

Tell ya what, I'd watch a German film anytime over a French film. Let's just say there's some historical and current geo-political reasons for that.

Since this was at the top as I looked here I figured I would comment since you were wondering. Wes Anderson, Once Upon a Time in the West. Well done there with a few other titles interesting but as people said foreign titles even if you rent to just test around would expand your idea of film as it did for me. I would recommend Bottle Rocket though definately.
