I just checked it out and they had the Lakers one for $45 and the Bulls one for $45. I picked up both, but now that I'm checkin' around, the Bulls one is going for about $30 at DDD.
I'm hoping to watch some of the Lakers one tonight. It's a pretty big set, looks real good. Can't wait to watch Game 7 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals again.

I got it early,
If you have the 2000 and 2002 Lakers Championship DVDs, then you have 1 disc of the set already. However this set does not contain the extras found on the individual championship DVDs. The Lakers History segment is the same 2 hour special seen on ESPN Classic and NBA TV. The 80's championship years discs are probably straight from the VHS. Nothing originally produced for the set.
I would have loved to see an ULTIMATE laker highlight reel with West's Half court shot, the baby hook, Kobe to Shaq and the comeback, Horry for 3!..etc etc.

wait, what about the complete games, how are they? What about the 2001 championship video (that was never released on DVD)? What else is there?

So, anyone who got this bad boy set, how is the transfer on the games? And are they complete with starting lineups and stuff like that or does it go straight to game? How bout halftime? Is there a halftime? PLMK

Fry's has the Lakers set for $40 at the store, I'm gonna go grab it tomorrow. I guess their prices are different than the website cause that's not really their own website. Doesn't matter though cause it's worth it.

I haven't watched a game since Jordan retired.
With no hand checking & legalizing zone defenses, it's not the same game IMO. Bulls vs Pistons, Lakers vs Celtics; now those were the goods.
Well I can finally get rid of the last of my VHS tapes... Hey where's Horace Grant on that cover? Alas, the stockyard's empty now.

my friend picked up the Bulls set today and we watched game 5 from the 1991 finals. Unfortunately the video quality was not so hot. It was obviously an old VHS source. That was the only game we watched so the others could be better.
The 4 discs are all dvd-18s with one complete game on a side, with one disc holding all the documentaries. The game we watched had the NBC intro with Bob Costas and had pre-game comments from Marv Albert and Mike Fratello. It then jumped straight to the tip-off. A large chunk of the first quater was cut and there were a handful of small cuts here and there through out the first half (mostly on free throws), but if memory serves me correctly, the second half was complete. There was no half-time analysis.
Assuming the other games follow the same pattern, I have to say some people may be disappointed with these discs. The video quality is not great and the games aren't completely uncut. However, my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed what we watched and I will definitely be picking up a set for my self.

I picked up the Lakers set and the games appear to be in their entirety for the CBS broadcasts (1980, 82, 85, 87, 88) It has the opening animation and video tease with Brent Musberger voice over and then Brent intros the game and tosses to Dick Stockton and Tom Heinsohn (for the 85, 87, 88) championship games.
The video quality for the CBS 80's broadcasts appears pretty good. I checked out the NBC 2002 West Finals against the Kings and the colors were a little faded.
Overall, if your a Lakers fan, this is a must! If you own any of the 80's championships VHS tapes, time to upgrade, they are all here.
The games are a nice bonus, although it sucks they did not include the 2000 West Finals game 7 and the 2002 West Finals Game 6

I thought the last part of the 1972 Game 5 Championship had been lost. Every time it was shown on ESPN Classic (called Classic Sports Network in those days) years ago it was missing. It would be great if they found a tape of the whole game.

Woohoo!! I went to Fry's and the Lakers set rang up for $35. They only had 3 more left at the Industry store. Watched 2002 WCF game 7, the colors were kinda faded and they chopped it up too much but it's cool. Awesome set, can't wait to see all the 80's stuff.

I have to assume that they'll be putting out a Celtics set at some point? I realize the current team is pathetic and they probably want to focus on more recent stuff, but I don't know how you can have a "Dynasty Series" without the Celts in the first batch...

The Bulls set was worth it just to see the opening sequence to the NBA on NBC broadcast. I really, really miss that catchy tune! Heads will role if any part of the first half of Game 1 of the 92 Finals is cut.
I didn't realize how long Marv Albert and the Czar have been working together.

However, I think the comments are opinions of the author and not the official word. We'll have to wait and see!
