Please forgive my ignorance, but...

What is the "European" edit?

Did Dario Argento just recut and rescore the original, or is "Zombi" something else entirely?

And how does it compare to the original?

Mountain Biker 06-12-04 12:28 AM

Now that is going to be one kick-ass box set!:thumbsup:

Numes 06-12-04 01:37 PM

This is obviously the version to have for Dawn of the Dead. Are they doing something similar for Day of the Dead, or can I buy the version that is currently released?

I would guess that Day of the Dead won't get such as nice a release since it isn't held in the same... reverance... as Dawn of the Dead...and deservidly so. Even though it has great gore scenes (Savani's best), it's not as great as "Dawn".

The current version for "Day" is mighty fine and you should go ahead and nab it.

ReservoirDog45 06-12-04 02:51 PM

HO-LY SHIT!
I love it when I (and DVDafa) am right *slides on head*

Thanks for the info. That is what I was also thinking, but I just couldn't remember which versions they were re-releasing and which they weren't.

QuiGonJosh 06-12-04 03:13 PM

OMG! Whens this come out! WHEN DAMN IT!?

Tyler_Durden 06-12-04 04:32 PM

I'm all over this one, though I would have hoped to have more of an analytical commentary track on the Argento cut, something like the track Criterion put on the butchered cut of "Brazil". I don't think the cast will have much to say about the differences between U.S. and European markets for horror films, or Argento's decisions to alter the film in the ways he did.

Anyway, I've been waiting for this set night and day (pun intended) since its announcement around four years ago, and it looks like it has been worth the wait - and more.

don't get to excited not confirmed yet according to dvd.ign.com

June 11, 2004 - Is Anchor Bay becoming the new New Line Home Entertainment? Their TV series sets rock, and now it looks like they have a fantastic movie box set in the works.

Fangoria, the bible of horror flicks, is reporting on its Web site that the forthcoming special edition of the original Dawn of the Dead from Anchor Bay will be a four-disc set. Here's what Fangoria is claiming are the contents. No verification from AB as yet, nor is there a price.

So now this thread is up, can someone kindly outline the differences btwn the 3 cuts?

Rypro 525 06-12-04 09:20 PM

as far as i know
the theatrical cut, is well, the version we all saw in theaters just restored and color corrected (most versions have a pinkish color to the blood, while the current dvd is red)
the extended version, is his oriignal cannes cut, just some additional character stuff, and a tad more violence
the european version, cuts out all of the humor and irony's about the movie, and makes it just a brain dead action blood and guts movie.

Well they are all very different to each other, and all have footage not in each version, so all 3 are different in any ways, and as tad more violence! well therers a load if you ask me!

but all 3 are very different to each other in soo many ways, its almost imposable to list everything, there that much! music, sound, and extra footage, sure someone has listed it all somewhere, but cannot say I have ever seen it.

Pelayu 06-13-04 06:48 PM

I was waiting to pick up this one

According to DVDFile, the retail will be $49.95.

Not too bad, when you think about it. This will likely street for $30-35 (DDD generally has Anchor Bay titles for 40% off), so you're looking at $30.00 for three cuts of the movie, plus "Document of the Dead," so that comes to around $7.50 per feature.

scarredgod 06-14-04 01:41 PM

i will definitely be all over this, it sounds sweet. im happy theyre including Document Of The Dead in the set. i dont think we will see a price under 39.99 at BB or CC. i will be thrilled if i can get it for 34.99 though.

please dont screw this up anchor bay.

Argento also remixed the sound so that Goblin's score is more prominent and aggressive.
