It will be anamorphic, which is more than enough reason to dump the original disc and buy the new one (for me at least).

According to the Dazed fan site(and believe me these cats ARE fanatics!), they're saying no commentary and no documentary. What the hell is going to be on this? I"m feeling better and better about the Dazed/Fast Times 2-pack.

That sucks - a commentary would have been great for this flick.

So basically the Flashback Edition is just a third repackaging of the same product! Shame on you Universal, Shame, Shame! The only flashback I'd be having from this dvd is the last two times I paid for the same exact thing.

How can they go around having retailers advertise that there is a commentary and short film about "partying" then come up with nothing. This sounds like false advertising to me. I know a lot of people who preordered that title and will definitely cancel their orders now that the truth is out!

I sold mine too. So it won't be a full triple dip, but still more than I should be spending on this bullshit.
Really disappointed, I was definitely looking forward to this release.

This is a huge disappointment. I've waited a long time for a SE of this flick and it looks like i'll be waiting longer.

At least I have my Slacker:CC.

Has this been confirmed anywhere else? I think it's jumping the gun to consider this gospel...

That pisses me off - though I'm not surprised, as Universal pulls this sort of shit routinely.

I haven't seen it confirmed elsewhere, but to be honest I haven't looked. I know it's not part of the "Special Features" listed on Amazon anymore( I believe it originally was). For what it's worth, the people who run that site are FREAKS for the movie, and were key to organizing the 10 year anniversary screening at the moontower in Austin as well as several petitions for a sequel or SE DVD release. So I don't know if it's pure gospel, but I think these people would know as much about a new release as anyone. Believe me, it's my favorite comedy of all time, I'd love to be wrong about it, but considering the heardled acrimony between Linklater and Universal regarding the film, it'd be no suprise to me if he wouldn't sit for a commentary. The long running rumor BEFORE this editions' annoucement is that Linklater would never involve himself with a Universal release(presumably leaving the door open if a Criterion were to license it). That seems about the only hope now for us diehards, and it's a cryin shame. With Star Wars out now, a proper SE of this movie is now my DVD holy grail.

looks like you're right, a letter from Linklater has been posted on Wiley Wiggins blog

Hi Wiley,

Just to let you know - there has been some trouble with Universal regarding their upcoming release of the DAZED AND CONFUSED DVD. I feel like I'm in an 11-year echo chamber with these idiots. There was a cool disk in the works with extended interviews, Kahane Corn's documentary MAKING DAZED, footage from the reunion, etc. but it turns out that these won't be on it any longer because, after all these years, they're rushing the title out to make some sort of deadline. Because of this I will not be doing a commentary or helping with anything else.

I wanted everybody to know the scoop and that I am pushing Universal to license the title to the Criterion Collection in a year or so and they would put out a fantastic disk.

I am withholding doing any press on the Universal disk and will not be affiliated with it in any way because of their continuing lameness toward this title.

Hope all's well in your world. Take care,

Rick

All I care about is the enhanced widescreen. I have no regrets dumping my original.
