I've been putting off buying "Fast Times" for some reason. Looks like it actually worked out. And I hope they really do call it just "Special Edition" and not "Fast Times at Ridgemont High: Checkered, Slip-On Vans Edition" or "Fast Times at Ridgemont High: If I'm Here and You're Here, Doesn't That Make It Our Time Edition"

Josh-da-man 05-18-04 10:46 PM

Is the upcoming SE of "Fast Times" going to be any different from the one that was released a while back? Or just a repackaging or reissue of the previous release.

Also pleased to hear that "Dazed and Confused" will be getting a SE. Excellent film.

joliom 05-18-04 10:55 PM

I wonder if they got Jennifer Jason Leigh and Phoebe Cates to do interviews for this latest release of FTaRH? The doc on the current edition is great, but really cried out for their input (especially since they kept bringing up the supposed "sexual exploitation" charges many accused the filmmakers of). I love Dazed, and FTaRH is one of my All-Time favorites, so I'm definitely down for the double dip!

I will be buying both. Good job Universal.

Now, let's get that ultimate edition of Mallrats with MTV special, more deleted scenes, and the television version as a bonus extra onto DVD. ;)

Yes Donnacha, I read the column. There is a R2 UK SE release of this title, which this seems to be (albeit NTSC). So thanks for your snippiness, but perhaps you could be more aware of what posters are asking before you jump on them.
Snippiness? You asked a question. I answered it. Perhaps you should be clearer with the questions you ask, and more grateful that we're here to help you out. Calm down.

I figured the SE would be annouced since I just got the Korean disc.

By MTV special, I assume you mean "Jay and Silent Bob's Video Stash"? There'd be no reason for that one to be on 'Mallrats' specifically, but I believe that the Jay and Silent Bob commercials will be included on the upcoming 'Clerks' DVD (though I don't think the special itself will be, because of all the videos they show during it).

I still have a copy on VHS somewhere, but the commercials were the best parts. (The ones starring Jay & Bob, that is, not the commercials during the broadcast ;) .)

Well it looks like we are going to get the same version of the movie as the website lists the running time as 1 Hour 43 Minutes, same as the version released now.

Let's hope they give this the special treatment it deserves...

According to DVDFile (so take it with a grain of salt) ;) a reissue. No new extras.

stinkeye 05-20-04 09:37 AM

some extras listed, also from DVDfile:

"Also just announced from Universal is a much-requested new reissue of Richard Linklater's Dazed & Confused: Flashback Edition, which will hit the streets on September 14th. Remastered in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, extras include a new audio commentary with Linklater, deleted scenes and trailers."

Finally! I've been holding off on buying this movie for so long, hoping for a SE...

This could be a movie that I could put in that thread about "movies you thought you'd hate, but now love after seeing them". I remember I avoided this movie like the plague. Just winded up watching it one boring day about 2 years ago on USA and loved it. Been putting off buying it cause I just knew there'd be a re-release.

I hope the FTARH disc has the tv version as well. The dubs for that are hilarious. And (fingers crossed) an extended scene of Phoebe getting out of the pool.

Casey Scott 05-20-04 07:25 PM

I thought a documentary crew had shot tons of footage at the 10th Anniversary screening, with the cast and crew reuniting to watch the movie at an outdoor big-screen event (Ben Affleck was the only absent cast member, guess J Lo was keeping him busy). This footage was SUPPOSED to be included on the DVD, so I hope Universal doesn't drop the ball AGAIN (cough...John Hughes SE's...cough).

Cornelius1047 05-20-04 07:46 PM

Wouldn't the 10th Anniversary have been last year though? The original DVD has been out longer than that.

We no longer carry Dazed & Confused at my Best Buy. In anticipation of the new version, I suppose.
