$19.99 each or for both of them? The are being sold for around $20 for both them together on most dvd retail websites like DDD, DVDplanet, etc.

You might want to check your local blockbuster's dvd set glass case. I just got mine for $24.99 (a few days early, but worth it). I do not have Best Buys price yet, but it beats Circuit City's (and its in a case).

does it have the linklater commentary?

No. No commentary or documentary. I would like to thank Universal for saving me the money I would have spent purchasing this title. In these hard economic times, they are so helpful ruin a title for us.

Speak for yourself, but finally having an anamorphic transfer trumps any extra.

Fast Times and Dazed seperatly are $19.99 at Blockbuster, OR they have a boxset with both for $24.99...

thelwig14 10-30-04 01:06 PM

Good, I did not get ripped off and I got to use some of my credit.

mikewendt 10-31-04 10:37 AM

Best Buy's prices... 2-Pack is $19.99 and $12.99 each.

slop101 11-02-04 12:47 PM

I know I trash-talked this release earlier - but now that I got it, I think that anyone who bitches about it is an asshole.

For $12, you get a very nicely cleaned-up transfer with a newly minted, much improved 5.1 (not to mention dts) and some fun deleted scenes. For such a low price, I don't see what there is to complain about.

(btw - be careful - it's easy to mix up the full-screen versions with the widescreens)

If one wanted both flicks, is there any downside to buying the "boxset" version for less money? I mean, are they exactly the same discs, artwork, etc., and simply sold together in a box that could be used for display or discarded as one desired?

thelwig14 11-02-04 01:54 PM

They are the same. The only downside is figuring out how you are going to display them in your collection.

Richard Malloy 11-02-04 02:07 PM

As far as display, I could just discard the box and pocket the savings, right?

I mean, except for the box itself, the packaging of the discs is the same as the individual releases?

brhow 11-02-04 03:45 PM

Actually, there is a downside to buying the two discs packaged together.

If you buy them packaged together, you get the 2 movies in seperate keep cases, packaged inside of one "ultimate party collection" cardboard sleeve.

If you buy them seperately, both movies are stored in their own keep case "obviously", but have a seperate cardboard sleeve for each movie. These cardboard sleeves are not contained in the "ultimate party collection".

For people who are going to file the movies by title, thus not using the "ultimate party collection" sleeve, they may want to buy them seperately to get the individual movie cardboard sleeves.

As a side note, the packaging on these is pretty obnoxious. Not only is the design pretty ugly, but they covered these things with LOTS of stickers that do not come off very easily.

Richard Malloy 11-03-04 08:47 AM

Good info, brhow. Thanks!

Unfortunately, makes the decision a tad more difficult. So, hmmm, is a cardboard sleeve worth an extra $3 per title...?

thelwig14 11-03-04 12:56 PM

I like the box set case. I decided to file it under U.

Hiro11 11-29-04 02:15 PM

I just bought Dazed and Confused Flashback yesterday. I've been waiting for an anamorphic transfer of this one for a long time. Also the DTS track is a marked improvement and really rocks. Altogether it's well worth the 11.99 I paid to double dip. No what it could have been, but the two disc version Linklater wanted would have probably been priced at 22.99 and I would have watched the extras once.
