I thought I would bump this up since it was hard to find this thread (apparantly you can't search the forums for the word "Fox" because its too short)

Any new news or releases announced? Did the excitement of this line of dvds die down or did the original creator of this thread become busy? I appreciated the info and hope someone can update the info.

there was a rumor Fox will be announcing its Q1 2005 Studio Classics along with news of its new Noir Classics line in early November. Looking forward to seeing the announcement!

If this noir line is done as well as the Studio Classics line I'm going to be in heaven. I haven't bought many Studio Classics discs yet because most of them aren't things that sound very interesting to me, but the handful that I do have or have seen have all been wonderful. I hope as much care goes into these noir titles becaue I'll buy every one, regardless of the quality of the film.

Sorry, I have been busy. I heard news of an announcement of 2005 titles will be in the next two weeks, so I've been holding off for a big update until then.

Some of the newer releases in this collection do not state that they are widescreen ANAMORPHIC, can some confirm or deny that they are in fact NOT anamorphic?
Thanks

Every widescreen release in the FSC series so far has been anamorphic.

This line is my favorite (next to criterion). The price to extras/quality ratio is just incredible. I agree that the noir line should be this good! I especially cannot wait for Laura.

Fox Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of three titles on their Studio Classics line for 22nd February 2005 priced at $14.98 SRP each. The titles in this first wave of the new year are...

Leave Her To Heaven - This stylish psychological thriller stars Gene Tierney as Ellen, the stunningly beautiful wife of handsome writer Richard Harland, played by Cornel Wilde. Ellen panics as her perfect marriage unravels and Harland’s work and invalid brother demand more and more of his attention. Her husband becomes unnerved by her compulsive and jealous behaviour. And when the people close to him are murdered, one by one, it is obvious that this dream marriage has become a full-fledged nightmare. Based on the best-selling novel by Ben Ames Williams.

Features include:

* 1.33:1 Full Frame
* English Mono & Stereo audio
* Spanish and French Mono
* English and Spanish subtitles
* Commentary by Darryl Hickman and Richard Schickel
* Trailer
* Restoration Comparison
* Still Gallery

A Letter To Three Wives - Joseph L. Mankiewicz directed and wrote the screenplay (based on John Klempner’s novel) for the 1949 feature A Letter To Three Wives and would receive Academy Awards® for both efforts. The film was also nominated for Best Picture. As three women head off on a boating trip with a group of children, they receive a letter written by a woman claiming to have stolen one of their husbands. Which one? The letter doesn’t say. Faced with the prospect of a shattered life, each woman soul searches throughout the day: Deborah Bishop (Jeanne Crain) feels inadequate amidst her husband’s (Jeffrey Lynn) country club set. Everyone sees Lora Mae Hollingsway (Linda Darnell) as a gold digger, including her husband (Paul Douglas). And Rita Phipps (Ann Sothern) has a career that makes her husband (Kirk Douglas) feel neglected to the point of infidelity. All three endure the anguish of uncertainty until the boat trip ends—and the truth is revealed.

Features include:

* 1.33:1 Full Frame
* English Mono & Stereo audio
* English and Spanish subtitles
* Commentary by Kenneth Geist (Mankiewicz Bio)
* Biography: "Linda Darnell: Hollywood's Fallen Angel"
* Fox Movietone News: "Oscars" Presented for Achievements in Motion Pictures
* Restoration Comparison
* Theatrical Trailer

Return to Peyton Place - This engaging follow-up to Grace Metalious’ best-seller is a study in big-time ambition and small-town narrow-mindedness. Peyton Place residents are up in arms after Allison MacKenzie (Carol Lynley) writes a scandalous novel whose characters and events closely mirror those in her hometown. Even her stepfather’s (Robert Sterling) position as high school principal is threatened after he refuses to remove her book from the school’s library. But the controversy doesn’t end there—in Manhattan editing her book, Mackenzie is tempted to become involved with her married publisher (Jeff Chandler), while back in the small town, a miserable matriarch (Mary Astor) tries to destroy her son’s marriage because of her own bigotry.

Features include:

* 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
* English Mono & Stereo audio
* Spanish Mono
* English and Spanish subtitles
* Commentary (To be determined)

Any chance of any of these being collected in box sets, besides the first 3 & Sunset?

Here's another update on the Fox Studio Classics series, found at http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=56025

Fox Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of three titles on their Studio Classics line for 24th May 2005 priced at $14.98 SRP each. The titles in the second wave of the year are...

Anna & the King of Siam: Rex Harrison stars as the King of Siam with Irene Dunne as Anna, the charming, strong-willed English widow who teaches him how to live in a modern world.

Presented in Full Screen with English Mono, English Stereo and Spanish Mono audio options; bonus features include "Anna and the King: The Real Story of Anna Leonowens" and "Fox Movietone News: Gala Hollywood Premiere."

The Best of Everything: Rona Jaffe's best-selling novel comes to life in this witty tale about the personal and professional lives of the men and women in a New York publishing firm. Heading a huge cast is Joan Crawford as a tough-talking editor who can't seem to win at love. There are a few more interesting stories around the office than there are in the manuscripts at Fabian Publishers. Among the principal players: a new secretary (Hope Lang) who quickly gets her boss's (Crawford) job and romances a handsome editor (Stephen Boyd); a Colorado secretary (Diane Barker) who falls for the wrong man (Robert Evans); and a would be actress (Suzy Parker) who's jilted by a two-timing director (Luis Jourdan). Slick and glossy, The Best Of Everything is a panorama of office politics before women's liberation.

Presented in Anamorphic Widescreen with English Stereo, French Stereo and Spanish Mono audio options; bonus features include audio commentary, Fox Movietone News and trailers.

The Razor's Edge: Narrated by on-screen observer Maugham (Herbert Marshall), this intriguing tale centers on a soul-searching World War I veteran (Tyrone Power) who finds he can not settle back into the world of the upper class. Shunning his planned marriage and career, he travels abroad to seek the meaning of life and career, and causes his distraught fiancé (Gene Tierney) to seek solace with another man (John Payne).

Presented in Full Screen with English Mono, English Stereo and Spanish Mono audio options; bonus features include commentary by Anthony Slide and Robert Birchar and Fox Movietone News segments.

Got my big fox shipment in and I've got all but 5 of these. I was very dissapointed by Desk Set, which while it had some clever moments was pretty dumb overall. This is really my first dissapointment from this line. I didn't much like Titanic either but the set had a full length documentary to make up for it. Desk Set had some trailers and that's about it.

I watched The Prime of Jean Brodie yesterday and it was very good. It turned out to be a very different movie than I thought it was going to be.

Also, a heads up. Leave Her to Heaven is listed at 7.49 on amazon. I've never seen it but the price is nice.

Here's a bit of a "heads-up" on the next Fox Studio Classics releases, courtesy of Barrie Maxwell's page of at The Digital Bits:

"According to Fox publicity, future Studio Classics titles (possibly for November) will include The Rains Came (1939), No Way Out (1950), and Two for the Road (1967)."

As there was only a three-month lag between the last two releases, let's hope that ETA of November 2005 is way off.

Specs and artwork for the next wave of titles on 8/5/05 are posted on dvdtimes.co.uk. It appears that Fox will no longer be including commentaries in the Studio Classics series - first "Anna and the King" and now these three releases.

Very sad to see the commentaries go. Although they weren't all great, a lot of them helped to give a bit of history/context to the films.

And, where the sweet hell is LIFEBOAT?
