Nice to hear that Strangers on a Train will be getting the patented WB 2-discer. Looks like my patience was rewarded once again.
Except for the fact that this DVD came out years ago - 1998. With a pretty good transfer and both versions of the film.

I can understand having patience when new releases are around the corner, but this movie has been out for 6 years already!

Heck, why not just wait another 6 years and get the BlueRay version?

I almost bought it a few months ago with a Borders coupon, but when I went back to the store to use the coupon again (limit 1 type of thing) the one for $14.99 had sold and the only copy left was $19.99 so I decided to put it off. Now I'm glad I did. And strangely enough though it has been towards the top of my list for a while, I haven't bought North By Northwest yet either. Looks like my patience/random chance happenings paid off.

With that nice low MSRP, the entire boxed set should only be around $50 retail.

EXCELLENT

That is an awesome price on the box set. This takes care of a few more laserdiscs I own.

Original poster art for covers?! Im about to do something I can only talk about in the mature forum .

Ill buy this whole set, Im guessing if North by Northwest is included it will be in a keep case too...well worth it to rid snappers from my Hitchcock collection.

Are people just finally starting to notice that the folks at Warner Home Video have been using original poster art for their classic DVD covers for many years? I guess maybe it does look more striking in a keepcase...

Well, it looks like the original MSRP for the boxed set was reported wrong.

It's $99.92, not $69.97.

So it'll likely be between $70-80 retail, not $50 as previously reported.

Still, not bad for a nine disc set.

Also, North by Northwest wasn't pictured. Will it too be re-issued in a keepcase with original poster art?

I don't know where you got your info, but that's the first time I've seen the $69.97 price. Every place I've seen this announced listed the higher price.

I have the press release from WB sitting here, and it's $69.97.

But $99.92 is what others are reporting, and it sounds about right.

I Hope radio shows are part of the bonus package.

Bob Hope and Carole Lombard did Mr and Mrs on The Lux Radio Theatre.

if i'm not wrong, the current version of Strangers on a Train has 2 different cuts of the same movie on a dual sided disc.

also, i think there's a making of documentary missing from the new version of North by Northwest that can be found on the current version...

Yeah, the current Strangers on a Train disc has the U.S. version on one side and the British version on the other. It looks like the new version will have only the U.S. version, and yet another version, the "preview" version of the film. I guess I'll be hanging on to the old disc.

AFAIK, the NxNW disc will be identical to the current version, with all features and docs. I'm just wondering about the packaging - since all of the others will be in keepcases, I'd assume that NxNW will be repackaged in a keepcase for the boxed set.

No confirmation yet, though.

with regards to the extras found on the current North by Northwest DVD, this is the detail that I lifted from somebody who posted their comments @ Amazon:

"Destination Hitchcock", hosted by Eva Marie Saint, is a documentary about the making of this movie featuring interviews with Hitchcock's daughter Patricia and screen writer Ernest Lehman (Who also does an audio commentary). A theatrical trailer, a "Hitchcock Trailer", a TV spot, a photo gallery, cast and crew bios and an isolated version of Hermann's music score complete this excellent package.

The British version and the preview version are the same thing. There is no magic third version of Strangers on a Train.

The current NxNW disc does not contain "The Man on Lincoln's Nose". It contains a different making of feature. "The Man on Lincoln's Nose" is an academy award nominated documentary made 3 or 4 years ago.

After the anouncement of specs I will not be buying this box set. These featurette docs are all repititious information. I love Pat Hitchcock but I've heard every one of her stories 3 times over. These documentaries never offer any new information or points of view beyond the cannonized mythos surrounding each film. This information is available anywhere. I was hoping for schollarly commentary and I'm very disapointed.

I'm only getting Foriegn Correspondent, I Confess, and maybe The Wrong Man.
