I was a little underwhelmed by the Braveheart DVD, and would probably double-dip for a new special edition. There's SO MUCH they could do with this title - even if they focused more on the historical events than they did the making of the film itself.
I believe there was a show on the Discovery Channel at the time about the real William Wallace, that was meant to tie-in promotionally with the film.
And some new interviews would be nice for the upcoming 10-year anniversary of the film's release.
Hmmm... 10 year anniversary in 2005... that sounds like the perfect time for Paramount to do a new SE.
Double-wide keepcase, please.

I'd love a special edition of this release. New commentary (maybe by the cinematographer, writer, etc) would be great. Maybe they could even get Gibson on there again. Maybe he'll fair better with someone to play off of. New documentaries and historical docs would be nice. As well as deleted footage, etc.

My best guess would be that when "The Passion of The Christ" is released on DVD, then a SE of "Braveheart" may also be released to tie-in with it. If not, then a 10-year Anniversary edition sounds pretty logical. So I would imagine that if one were to come out, it would be out before the end of 2005.

Mel Gibson's lunatic remarks about his new film have completely turned me off. Looking at Braveheart in light of this, the whole bit about God sending the Irishman to kill English is now tainted by Gibson's crazy "faith." It's going to take some work to separate Mel Gibson, the guy who directed Braveheart and Mel Gibson, the right-wing fundie.
I'm keeping The Road Warrior because that was Gibson pre-Jebus and that's still ok...

I think you're confusing Mel Gibson with his father. It was Gibson's father who made some anti-semetic remarks, not Mel.
And he's a Christian, so is that what you mean by "crazy 'faith'"?

I will be one of those first in line to see The Passion, I feel games03 making remarks about a film -or the filmmaker, likewise- before seeing a film..is simply....lunatic.

Let's keep this thread on topic, which is the possibility of a Braveheart SE. If you want to discuss Mel Gibson, religion, or anything else, do it in Movie Talk or Other.

I was just so happy to get Braveheart of DVD, but now all this talk of a SE, I'm all for that.
This is one that I'll definitely upgrade, given some substantial supplemental material, such as some historical pieces on the life of William Wallace. Braveheart is a great mtion picture, worth some extras.

This was an Oscar winning movie for Gibson, it should have a Black Hawk Down DE-caliber DVD set.

Maybe also explain the Declaration of Arbroath from 1320, which was the basis for America's Declaration of Independence.

Braveheart was announced as one of the first HD-DVD titles to be released at the end of the year ... whether that includes a "special edition" release remains to be seen.
Knowing the studios, they'll release a barebones HD version first and then a Special Edition HD DVd years from now!
