People have always given me the skunk-eye for saying it's one of my top Ridley films, and perhaps his most beautifully shot. Of course I knnow the story had a lot to be desired, but there's just something very organic and natural about the look of it, and not a CGI shot that's noticible, unlike Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven. I like those too, but when watching them, I just can't avoid not pointing out those scenes and say "CGI again."

Wouldn't mind a Criterion release. Guaranteed a nicer cover than what Paramount would give us.

No doubt about it, 1492: Conquest Of Paradise is one of Ridley Scott's best films, and easily one of his most beautiful motion pictures. What alot of people also overlook is how moving the film is, it has got tons of heart to it, and all the detail of the age (late 14th, early 15th century) is also overlooked. Everything is done just about to perfection for a film of it's kind. Easily, one of Ridley Scott's best film and with hardly any CGI used, it makes it even 100 times better to watch knowing there is nothing fake about it. If Ridley Scott is working on a directors cut for Paramount (or Criterion collection, ), I wonder if he will add some CGI effects to the film, to enhance certain moments of the film.

Oh, absolutely, I am shocked Criterion Collection hasn't considered this for release, assuming they can buy off the rights to it from Paramount Pictures. They have tons of wonderful exotic, eccentric films in their collection, so I don't see how this wouldn't blend in with their other catalogue titles. 1492: Conquest Of Paradise would make the perfect Criterion Collection release, easily. Unlikely, but it's possible if they can buy off the rights from Paramount Pictures. We know the extra's, cover art, menus, and video/audio transfer would be downright incredible.
