Shogun (Mini-series) DVD being prepped!
From HonoluluAdvertiser.com:
There ya go....
Actor Richard Chamberlain, who starred in the five-hour, 12-part "Shogun" mini-series in 1980, may be taping footage at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa for a planned DVD release of the show later this year. Negotiations are under way with the Ihilani, the hotel featured in "Blue Crush," as a backdrop for planned interviews with Chamberlain for the DVD package.

I'm as much amazed that Shogun and Blue Crush were mentioned in the same breath as I am that I'll actually get to own this great mini series on DVD. The Hara-Kiri scene remains indelibly printed upon my mind (I was 11 when i saw it...)

I have been talking about this one here recently. I remember my parents watching it when I was much younger. I thought it was "booooring" then. Now I can't wait for it. Kinda like when you told your parents that you would never take naps when you get older

He means 5 part, 12 Hour mini series. The math comes out at 2.4 hours per part that way, but possibly they ran it in 2 and a half hour segments? I can't remember. In any case, I'm sure the DVD will be the uncut version, not the condensed feature released on VHS in the olden days.

I hope this is true and they have found a way to bring this to DVD! One of my favorites.

What a coinkydink -- I just started reading the novel last week (on page 248 of approximately 2,387,993).
Great book, so far. Looking forward to seeing it on the screen. Besides, it has Toshiro Mifune as Toranaga. Bring it!

I gave Gord the news that we're working on it, but no specs, so don't assume anything about the specs just yet.

Hey, what about the more amazing task of finding Richard Chamberlain. You think the DVD mastering is going to be hard...

Last but not least, other new Paramount September releases on the way include five new holiday-themed titles including SpongeBob SquarePants: Christmas, Nick Jr. - Oswald: Welcome to the Big City, Blue's Clues: Blue's First Holiday, Nickelodeon: Christmas, and Scrooge. Rounding out the lineup are An Almost Perfect Affair, the direct-to-video Bang, Bang You're Dead, House of Fools, I Love Lucky Season One, Volume 9 and the landmark television miniseries Shogun, starring Richard Chamberlain. Stay tuned for street date, specs and pricing information.

Matt Millheiser,
Amd remember, the book Shogun is just the beginning of Clavell's rather MASSIVE story. I haven't read his saga for years. Why? Well, come to think of it, it took me years to read it.

I read about this in TVGuide several months ago, but then I hadn't heard anything else about it. Good to know that it's still in the pipeline, but too bad it still doesn't have a release date.
