What,no Widescreen version? I'm boycotting this travesty!
Heh, just kidding. This is great news. Being a big fan of historical epics, I can't wait to get ahold of this.

New Styx Remix:
Hono Arigato Mr. Chamber-lo. Hono. HONO. Hono. HONO. Hono Arigato Mr. Chamber-lo...
Hey, I have gay friends so I can make fun. The lyrics would really fit. C'mon boys, sing along with me!

I saw Shogun when it first appeared on TV in 1980, then taped it off the air when it was repeated several years later (and I had a VCR). The second time that I saw it, I remember thinking that there was more Japanese dialogue with subtitles the first time it was aired and more dialogue in English when it was repeated. Is my memory faulty or were there actually two different versions of the audio? Anybody else have that long a memory?

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Is this the original TV version or the longer cut that appeared on VHS sometime in the late 80s?
I can't find the total running time in any of the etailer lists.

Okay, so it's the original TV miniseries and does NOT contain the extra scenes (beheading scene, full frontal nudity, etc.).
Well, maybe they'll be included as extras. It sounds like they're doing everything right with this set. Yum.

I remember that NBC in repeat showings of Shogun had added
a voiceover narraration by Orson Welles to explain some of what was happening because some American viewers did not understand what was going on in certain scenes.

Actually, the original always had the Welles narration - the re-release on TV (the shorter version) had Anne Bancroft, and then the movie version (123 minutes out of 547 - can anyone say "horribly truncated"?) featured Welles again, but it was completely different narration.
Man, those different narration tracks would make great supplements.

DVD Talk Legend
I have recently watched the first 2 discs of Shogun thru Netflix and have been bored to tears. I was wanting opinions to see if I should even attempt to finish the series out with the remaining 3 discs or should I give up? Does it get any better or is it at the same pace as the first 5 hours?

I got it, don't worry.
