Blake 7 out on 1/7/03
Blake's 7 - on DVD
There will be two sets of B7 DVDs, a set produced by BFS for the North American Market in NTSC format (not region locked). And a PAL set produced for the European and Australian Market by Fabulous Films (Region 2 coded).
The Blake's 7 copyright holders have a contact deal with regard to releasing Blake's 7 on DVD. Source Avon club - 12-1-02
The BFS (NTSC) set
The current production schedule calls for a collection set (complete) containing 10 discs of which the first 8 will have 5 episodes each and the last 2 will have 6 each. They are all slated to release on the same day currently set for January 7, 2003.
They will be available as 10 individual DVDs or as a full set.
There is a possibility of extras on these DVDs, but nothing is yet certain.
There is a strong possibility that they will not be region coded

The whole series?
Every episode?
Really?
You're not yankin' my chain here?
If this is true, then please excuse me while I scream like a little schoolgirl.

i wasn't overwhelmingly clear... There was an old thread about this that i can't find now (or maybe it was at hometheaterforum). The specs listed above were there, but later the dvds were listed as "postponed for reconsideration" presumedly because 6 1 hour eps on 1 dvd isn't gonna work too well. i'm wondering if this post is a) new information or b) stale information.

ok to clear some things up here is the link to the Blake 7 fan site that I got the info from
http://www.hermit.org/blakes7/index.html
DVDs The NTSC format DVDs will be released on Jan 7th 2003 as 10 DVDs we will provided details of the extras as soon as they may be made public.
Clicking on the DVD's word on that page will take you to the info that I first posted
as to how old the info is
Well I check the site every week or two so its not too old
and I think the site keeps up on things so I think its a GO!
I hope so I used to have them all on tape but a nasty devorce took them away
but I may yet have them again this time on DVD!!!

As far as I recall from previous discussion, the NTSC version is NOT remastered like the PAL versions are going to be. Also, the PAL versions are not going to be crammed 8 to a disc like the NTSC ones, meaning a much better bit rate.
The PAL versions are 4 boxed sets, one per season - and loaded with extras. The NTSC were bare bones. The bottom line - the PAL version is clearly the way to go.
Now, much of this information may have changed - but this was accurate as of last summer.

I e-mailed BFS the Co. that owns the rights to Blake 7 and got this response.......
Blake's 7 is currently under development and planning for the DVD release.
At this point it has not been scheduled but I would expect the first
releases in early 2003.

So this is offical from the horses mouth so to speek
and its great news!!!

Hooray for a classic!
that was a great TV series... Star Trek fans will hate this, but I think Blake was a superior series - first of all, it had the daring to be pessimistic, and second of all, it knew where to stop.

So I wonder what kind of restoration is going on with the episodes? If it's anything close to what the RT has been doing on Doctor Who, it'll be very impressive. The restored Aztecs looks just fantastic for a nearly 40 year old film!
. . . . of course, anything shy of what the RT has been doing, and I'll find myself very disapointed.

Well clearly the 1-7-03 date didnt pan out like hoped. Is there any further word on the R1 release?
Frankly as the clock runs down, I'm more and more sold on the remastered R2 version. Now THATS a sweet set if you ask me.

Yet another delay. Beginning to wonder if this will actually ever be released.

The latest I've heard is that there is nothing being done about a Region 1 release. Get yourself a multi-region player that plays PAL and go for the Region 2 sets, the second of which is coming out on January 17, 2005 - unless it gets delayed again (it already has twice, at least).

The problem with the R2 discs (aside from the layer change problem on the first run of S1 discs) is that DAMN they cost a ton of coin. The dollar is extremly weak right now, and the sets cost a pretty penny in the first place - so we're looking at a Star Trek MSRP level of money.
I like the show, but not to the tune of 80-100 bucks a season. This is a total rental for me, man.
