WWE to Release Andre The Giant DVD in 2004
From 411mania.com . . . take it for what it's worth:
The WWE will be releasing an Andre the Giant DVD in early 2005. Here is what is planned for the DVD.
Andre the Giant was a man larger than life, so large his nickname was “The Eighth Wonder of the World.” Lord Alfred Hayes hosts the matches that built the legend of this Hall of Famer.
The complete match listing for the DVD release features:
*Andre the Giant vs. Moondog Rex 8.1.1981
*Andre in an 18-Man Battle Royal with Sgt. Slaughter, Big John Studd, Jimmy Snuka, Pat Patterson, “Hollywood” Hogan, Paul Orndorff, The Iron Sheik & Tito Santana.
*Andre the Giant vs. Black Gordman & Great Goliath 1.12.1976
*Andre the Giant vs. Jack Evans (not that one), Johnny Rodz, & Joe Butcher Nova
*Andre the Giant vs. Gorilla Monsoon with the Grand Wizard
*Andre the Giant & Jimmy Snuka vs. the Wild Samoans 2.18.1983
*Andre the Giant vs. the Masked Superstar 2.20.1984
*Andre the Giant & S.D. Jones vs. Big John Studd & Ken Patera with Bobby Heenan 12.15.1984 (haircut angle that was reprised with The Big Show and Kurt Angle earlier this year)
*Andre the vs. Ken Patera 1.21.1985
*Andre the Giant vs. Big John Studd 3.31.1985 WrestleMania 1 features Alternative commentary by Michael Cole & Tazz

And they don't have the match where Hogan body-slammed him? I know it wasn't pro-Andre, but it was pretty huge at the time.
I guess they wouldn't need the whole match, so hopefully they will make mention of it and show the clip.
I'd probably pick this one up. Wish they would do more of the 80s wrestlers (hint, hint, Randy Savage)

I don't know...I used to be a huge wrestling fan, but within the past year, my interest has wained and now I don't even watch anymore. I guess the story lines just got too stupid.

Did Andre ever wrestle Haystacks Calhoun -that would be interesting too see. However,it was rare to see good guy vs good guy in those days.

Another question-did Andre the Giant ever wrestle the original Sheik in MSG?

I'm surprised the pre-WM4 match (from Saturday Night's Main Event) between Andre and Hulk isn't on there. It's the one where ANdre actually beats Hulk and wins the title. There were shenanigans involved, and he hands the belt over to Ted DiBiase a minute later, but it's still an important part of his story as its the only time he held a world title. Plus it's Hogan's first title loss.
Also, why no tag matches with Haku? They were tag champs near the end of his career.

This is a disgraceful re-release of a horrifying Coliseum Home Video release. For the love of all that is holy, stay far away from this thing and send WWE the message that we don't want old products rushed in VHS quality onto DVD. Vince has enough old footage in his own pocket, and has been willing to fork over the cash to NJPW for their footage, so they should be able to give Andre's career the proper perspective it deserves. Where's the Shea Stadium match with Hulk Hogan? The NJPW draws against Stan Hansen and Akira Maeda? Andre was a truly unique character in pro wrestling, and having a release full of handicap matches is really a shame.

This is indeed a CV release, which dropped in 1985, thus there's no match from WM III. I know CV released a lot of crap over the years, but I was always a mark for them, so I'll be getting this. And for what it's worth, Andre was never the most exciting guy to watch from a wrestling standpoint, so this video isn't all bad.

I'll pick it up. This DVD will more than likely be pretty cheap, and isn't in any way meant to be some sort of once and for all final Andre the Giant collection. There is a place for these rereleases right along with all of the better, more expensive sets that are brand new.

I'd really love to see the Coliseum Home Video release of The Best of Roddy Piper on DVD. Since there's no plans to release a set, this would be a quick easy fix for old time fans till they decide to do it. It had the Jimmy Snuka Piper's Pit, the one with Frankie Williams, Roddy interviewing himself (on split screen), matches, etc. I'd like to copy mine on to DVD just to be safe someday soon. I also enjoyed many of the other Coliseum Home Videos...I'd like to see the Best of The WWF/E volumes released as well.

Casey summed up my thoughts well. Like I mentioned earlier, I was always a fan of CV, even if they had a lot of crappy releases. I doubt any of these transfered DVDs will break your wallet, since they're not likely to have any bonus material. And that's fine with me; I would love to retain the CV library, but would like to have it in DVD form, just so I wouldn't worry everytime I popped in a tape that's two decades old.

I'm at least going to rent this, as I haven't seen a lot of these matches. I agree with everyone who says Andre deserves a more thorough retrospective!

As has been said a couple times, I'm a huge CV mark and have atleast 50 tapes myself and am ecstatic about the recent CV DVD releases we've been getting. I'll be in line on Day 1 for the Andre release and the Best of the IC Belt. Now if only they'd release "Bloopers, Bleaps, and Bodyslams" 1, 2, or both like they had planned to.
