as it is now, the only decent (widescreen) copies of these two films are region 2 only.

Me too, the Region 1 copies I have are horrible transfers.

I finally watched the Once Upon a Time in the West SE the other day. Wow!

Loved the 3 doc's too - great to see the cast/filmmakers talk about their experiences making this movie and their memories of Leone.

I'd be curious to see some of the footage that was cut from the 165m version. There were some stills of a scene where Harmonica gets beaten up by the Sheriff. Someday perhaps...

I could name a dozen friends who absolutely love the Eastwood flicks, but have no recollection of Once Upon a Time in the West. When I insist they watch this DVD they all have a similar reaction.

I'am pretty sure the BU box set is OOP. I think all the titles are available for purchase now including Django (extra to the box set).

Manja:a man called blade and Run Man Run, two titles from the BU box set have just been released in a two pack called the Spaghetti Western Double Shot.

What I find fascinating about this movie is that it was regarded as a dismal failure when released. Granted it was chopped up quite a bit in most parts of the world (sans Paris, France -- where it was adored) and I think it was Alex Cox (in one of the documentaries) stating that he thinks there will continually be a new version of this movie that includes scenes that no one has seen before. I also adored Ennio Morricone's (now famous) score.

I just listened to the cast/crew/historian commentary on OUATITW. Very moving and left me a bit misty-eyed. (don't recall that ever happening on a commentary before)

According to the reliable spaghetti guys over at Sartana's site, Diamond has a new 5-Disc set out including:
JOHNNY YUMA
ANY GUN CAN PLAY
FIND A PLACE TO DIE
SAVAGE GUNS
WHITE COMANCHE
IT CAN BE DONE AMIGO
HELLBENDERS
BOOT HILL
CUTTHROATS 9
BETWEEN GOD, THE DEVIL AND A WINCHESTER
THIS MAN CAN'T DIE
MINNESOTA CLAY
THE FIGHTING FISTS OF SHANGHAI JOE

Some of the movies are said to be in widescreen, others in full. But still all for a modest $9.99! You guys out there scope for this set to see if there's plenty to be found. I'd love to pick this one up.

Sounds good, but I'm having trouble finding it online. Any links to online stores where this can be bought?

Not sure if to many on-line stores sell Diamond but Amazon does. It does say the release date is 8/30/05 though.

Anyone know of any other on-line places that carry Diamond? In the past I have found them in FYE B&M movie stores.

Thought readers of this thread might be interested to hear that MGM are releasing 3 Lee Van Cleef spaghetti's in the UK on 15 August - Death Rides a Horse, Sabata and Return of Sabata. A tenner each.

The Fye movie store B&M had one set of the Spaghetti Westerns from Diamond. It was 11.99. Not bad for the price. 5 titles are WS. The remaining 8 are P&S, FF. Pretty decent quality compared to Direct Source or the sets seen in the walmart bin of like titles.

How about a region 1 release from MGM/Sony for Death Rides a Horse? A lot of people have been waiting a while for a decent anamorphic widescreen release for that one.

From DVDAnswers ...

Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment has announced the Sabata Trilogy Collection which includes the 70s Westerns - Adios Sabata, Return of Sabata and Sabata. The set will be available to own from the 18th October this year, and should set you back somewhere in the region of around $35.95. I'm afraid we have no word on any extra material for this one at the moment, but we'll let you know if we hear anything. Stay tuned.

I haven't seen any of the Sabata movies, but how can you lose with Lee Van Cleef? Plus, that boxart is nice.
