I keep all of the original paper covers in a file, just not the plastic cases. In addition, a lot of my original artwork spines were getting pretty faded out, so the Thinpak spines are, in some cases, more readable than my original artwork.

A piece of paper that fits in a 14mm case will not fit in a 7mm case without 7mm being trimmed, folded, or scrunched.

I don't think we'll see much of that. The width varies, but the standard size isn't going to change.

No, I'm just saying that if the area (Length x Width) is kept the same when the case is laying out flat the page will fit regardless of how wide the paper cover is. This was a counter to the argument that a page that fits in a case with 14mm couldn't fit in a case with a 7mm spine not a request for a differnt build on cases.

If you make a slimmer spine width, it just won't fit. There is no physical way to make a slimmer case and have the standard size cover art fit. Whatever you subtract from the spine width, must be subtracted from the cover art size. If you buy 7mm slimcases, you must fold or trim 7mm. If you buy 12mm cases, you must trim 2mm. Etc. It's just math.

Maybe I'm not explaining this well, but it seems pretty simple to me. The length of the cover art in a standard DVD is equal to the standard width of the case, x2 for front and back, plus the 14mm width of the spine.

The market isn't remotely big enough to warrant it.
The standard L/W of DVD cases is set in stone. Think of the mess it would make with shipping boxes, retail shelves, furniture design, etc etc
All just my opinion/logical guesses of course.

I think we would know about it if these were being made. While I agree that it would be nice, as I'd rather not trim or fold, I don't see this happening.

Personally I dont see what mess it would make with boxes, shelves or furniture design, as arent blue ray cases a different set of dimensions anyway? IE arent dvd cases 5 inches wide (spine to opening) and blueray cases a little over 5.25 inches wide?

Re: Anyone else guilty of buying slim cases and being stuck w/ old ones
Just speculating, but I'm guessing the market for DVD cases is basically three groups.
#1 is the studios/production/distribution companies making store released DVDs. They aren't going to change the standard size, except for maybe the spine width. This is by far the largest group and the only reason why any company produces cases.
#2 is the individuals/smaller companies for "home-brew" DVDs. This market also wouldn't be interested in changing the standard size.
#3 is the insignificant few thousand of us, creating custom cases or moving into slimmer cases to save space.
Again, I'm just thinking out loud, not trying to be particularly argumentative or anything.

I imagine I'm in a pretty small group in wanting that.

Do any sites like that specialize in combined covers? I'd like to cut down space, and what just as soon go straight to double thinpacks. I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to create a tool that would allow you to select two titles and print out a cover (one title on the front, one on the back, and then half space for each on the spine).

I have found that the 5mm cases work well, so that saves a little bit more space for my 1 discers. It seems like most of my titles are two-discers anyway.

You could download both of the covers you want and then create one combined cover using PhotoShop. Sorry, best alternative I can think of.
