I got that case with my 3:10 to Yuma from Best Buy during the holidays. I thought it was strange, but it was the only one with the slipcover.

Note: It did feel weird. When I was unwrapping it I tapped one of the holes with my hand inadvertently and I tapped it a few more times, because it sounded and felt noticeably odd. I didn't know why until I opened it up.

Re: What is this The Punisher nonsense?

looking at the pics of these new amarays i must also say that they look extremely fragile!
i think the paper insert will easily get damaged if there is some outside pressure applied.
the question is, if they are actually trying to save the environment, or just being cheap ass by saving extra cents on during the production process
if number one is their goal, it`s a great thought....but is THIS really the way to achieve it??

Re: What is this The Punisher nonsense?

Personally, I never understood why DVD and video game cases were so large in the first place. Standard CD jewel cases seemed perfectly fine to me. I don't mind the new cases because we don't have any kids and as grown-ups, we know how to handle our stuff properly. I'm not convinced that the eco-design poses any further threat to floating discs, and while I concede that there is an increased risk to the outer artwork, it should be easy to identify any damage prior to purchasing. The only time this will become an issue is for online orders.

I think the shrinkage we've gotten with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD cases is acceptable, but jewel cases crack more easily. I prefer DVD cases to jewel cases.

Several Studios released DVD's in jewel cases in 1997. These also had a slipcase.
They were interesting to say the least. Universal released both types of cases and ceased production of jewel cases in 1998 because the dvd case versions sold better. I have a few copies of these releases.

Re: What is this The Punisher nonsense?

i received my first lionsgate title with this new eco design today. are they the only company who are doing this?
dumbest idea EVER!! i mean look at these cases, how much plastic is actually saved?? 0,01 gramm?? the only thing this idea does, is to make the case much more fragile!! definite danger to the artwork!
did these morons ever consider that lots of dvds are purchased online, hence
greatly increasing the risk of damage during shipping!?
i could think of a thousand better ideas to save the planet than to come up with this dumb mastermind idea!!

Re: What is this The Punisher nonsense?

I've worked for a bunch of companies that accepted trade-ins on DVDs. Judging by the general public, they treated their DVDs and cases like shit, so to most folk they wouldn't mind/notice.

This crap better not catch on with XB360/PS3 cases too. It already started with Blu-Ray's...
