Question about Seven Samurai

I got my Kurosawa Box Set from DDD today. However, I notice that Seven Samurai lists a running time of 203 minutes on the back of its case. I happen to already own Seven Samurai, and that release says the running time is 207 minutes. Will someone please explain why there are two running times listed? Thanks.

The 203 minute designation used to denote an OOP first edition of Seven Samurai. The newer version, without the restoration demo was listed as 207 minutes even though the movie was still 203 minutes. It could have been the music at the beginning and end that added up to the extra 4 minutes.

However it appears they've gone back to listing the correct length of the movie which is 203 minutes. Unless yours also has a restoration demo.

Speaking of Seven Samurai, when are the Criterion re-releases of their earlier Kurosawa dvds going to happen? Any info?

Could the extra 4 minutes be the intermission?
