What about a Special Edition for Gone With the Wind....?!
It seems like most classic movies have gotten the Special Edition treatment except for the ultimate classic, Gone with the Wind.
I've heard rumours that it could be released but never anything really solid. The current dvd release is bare bones, with I believe a trailer and in a dreaded snapper case.
I haven't watched the dvd in a while so I can't remember if the transfer is all that good or not. I don't remember it being anything super great though. I wonder if they did clean it up, since it's nearly a 4 hour movie, would they spread it over two discs? I think the current release is sadly a flipper.
There is a wealth of info that they could include on a Special Edition and I just wish they'd get on the ball and release it.

The rereleases thread at the top of the forum list it as an unofficially (? maybe my memory is off) confirmed disc. I'm sure it'll be a pretty deluxe package.
But why is it a problem if it's a flipper if it's OK to spread it out over two discs? Same thing, just one less disc. (sure, obviously there are implications w/r/t special features on a single-disc movie, but still.)

Gil, I remember that they had released Gone with the Wind back in theaters and that this current release is basically the transfer from that presentation. If I remember correctly, the trailer included on the disc consisted of a book with its pages being turned to introduce the film to audiences.
What are some of the the things that people would like to see on a special edition release of this movie?
The documentary Making of a Legend is a must to be included. It was made during the 50th anniversary and was well done.

The documentary was made by MGM, back in the days when MGM still owned the rights to the film.
Now that the film is with Warner, I'm not sure where the docu rights stand. I would suspect that they are still w/MGM.
I have the documentary on laserdisc and it is really fantastic. I've never been a HUGE fan of GWTW, just a casual one. But that docu is required viewing.
