Buying Box Sets/Digipaks Online
I was just a bit curious about ordering box sets and/or digipak movies online. I will openly admit I am pretty anal about the condition of my DVDs, everything down to the case. So I was wondering, for those with experience of ordering box sets and such online, do these cases ever come considerably damaged? I have resorted to buying the few sets I have in B&M shops, simply because I can inspect to my desire. Even in B&M though, most end up being banged up by careless employees or customers. How is the condition when they show up when ordered from a reputable online vendor, say Amazon (who was my primary choice)? I just want some information and shared experiences. Thanks in advance!

Nearly all box sets and digipaks I have ordered online have arrived in perfect condition. I recall only two minor exceptions, both due to exceptional abuse by the shipper.

Most of my online experience has been with Amazon. Unfortunately, it seems that lately I haven't had good experiences with my box set shipments. The problem tends to be the way that they are packaged and then (mis)handled by UPS or USPS. If they package them with the "wrap-around" cardboard and they ship from one of the warehouses back East (I'm on the West coast), it will invariably arrive damaged. I've had better success when they are packaged in a larger box with the air pillows or shrink-wrapped down to a cardboard holder. I have to say that Amazon CS has been very good about sending replacements out quickly and with better packaging than the initial shipment.

I have ordered a few from DDD and they have been fine. This is actually something i've been debating as well. I try and buy most of my sets B&M, but the few times i've resorted to DDD i've been happy with the condition.

For expensive boxsets, I got most of my online purchases from amazon. If the boxsets should arrive damaged due to poor handling by shipper or poor quality control at the factory, I could get a replacement shipped pretty quickly. For examples, I had got amazon to replace Escaflowne boxset and hack//SIGN vol 1. LE (in separate incidents) because they arrived damaged thanks to USPS. Should I had to return the damaged sets first, and wait for the store to receive them before shipping out replacement, those LE boxsets might have been sold out already!

I mainly buy from DDD too... and have not had any problems. I was a tad worried with Alien Quadrilogy but it arrived fine. When I heard about probs with Monster Legacy Collection I picked it up at a B&M.

I usually order with dvdempire b/c I've had some problems with DDD in the past. Dvdempire packs all their packages with styrofoam peanuts. You might pay a dollar or two more, but I've never had anything damaged from them.

I just got several box sets from DDD with no problems. The only time i wont order a box set online and buy B&M instead is something like the Schindler's List boxset, where its very fragile. Otherwise never had a problem.

I totally understand your situation. I sit in the store and go over it each one until I find one that is perfect. I always avoided buying sets online to avoid damaged ones. However the sale at DDD was too good to pass up, so i ordered 4 boxsets and everyone was perfect. Better than the ones in the stores, that have slight dings from being put on the shelves. I guess i could have been lucky but i feel pretty good about buying sets from DDD. I also imported a few buffy and angel sets from amazon UK, they also arrived perfect.
