Need help making DVD Covers!

New Here,

Anyhelp would be great!! New to making DVD covers!

Trying to get some info.. I have an HP 932c printer and hp brochure and flyer paper glossy.. Size of paper is 8.5X11
What software is the best to make the dvd cover in and then cut it to the right size of the dvd box for the outside of the box? Is 8.5x11 paper the right size of paper to use to make the dvd cover on the outside every program I have used leaves a white border on the outside and when I cut that white border the dvd cover is way too small for the box..

Any help or demo pics or something to that effect would be great.. Glad to be aboard!!

Use this dimensions to make your parts:

Front: 1535 x 2175 @300 DPI
Spine: 170 x 2175 @ 300 dpi
Back: 1535 x 2175 @300 DPI

Paste them together into one file in Photoshop (3240 x 2175 @ 300 DPI), then print.

The covers from cdcovers.cc are no good for printing. Too small, and the wrong DPI.

Right. Which is better in my book. Just make different layers when creating your cover. Use rulers to mark where the spine is.

8.5 x 11 works fine for single dvd covers and thinpak covers. When you go to print, select 'legal 8.5 x 11" size paper. Landscape. And then you can deselect center on page, change the left margin to 0 or .1 and voila! You have tricked your printer into printing something bigger than it should have. Most new printers do borderless printing as well.

The best place to get them is to create them yourself, honestly - thats not a snub off - its an excellent hobby and can really teach you a lot about resolution, sizing, quality, technique and design....I mean seeing as how you seem to want to get into the hobby that is.

Yes, standard letter sized paper is of sufficent size (depending on the crop area of your printer) to print out a standard size and resolution amaray cover inlays.

the actual measured dimensions are 10.8" x 7.25" - if your printer crops less than 1/8" or 3/16" MAX. (1/4" is too much) on the left and right, your print should fit nicely into the case, when you trim it off.

8.5" x 11" paper only works if your printer supports minimal borders...some printers have like half inch borders, and then the image doesn't print right...it's cropped. Another possibility is that your program may be resizing the image, and thus it will be too small for a DVD case.

By the way, the forums seem to be up at DVDcoverart.com now...read those tutorials.

A4 paper would be a certainty to get the cover on the paper. Like Jupiter mentioned above, a cover is 10.8"x7.25" printed in landscape. Getting 10.8" onto an 11" sheet of paper is difficult without a borderless (or minimal border) printer.

There are also numerous sites out there that offer tutorials on creating covers; the DVDCA forum is one place to start.
