Some info on the demise of The History of Beavis & Butthead

The Onion AV club has an interview up with Mike Judge, in it, he talks about what killed a Beavis & Butthead Do America sequel, saying:

"It was for a while. I had renewed interest in it a couple of years ago, and then MTV released a DVD that was completely unauthorized, that they didn't tell me about, and basically broke a contract with me by releasing it, so I said no Beavis And Butt-Head movie. We're just starting to work it out now.

O: Did you not want that material out there, or was the problem just that they didn't consult you before doing it?

MJ: There are a couple things. There's a DVD they put out called The History Of Beavis And Butt-Head, and it was all the episodes that I didn't pick for the home-video series. So it was basically all the worst episodes, with some exceptions. With that title, it appeared to be a definitive collection. And I'm thinking about my kids and their friends, if they ever ask, "What did your dad do?" I had absolute approval rights, and they just blatantly did this without telling me. I still don't understand why it happened. It wasn't like somebody had been fired and somebody new was there: These were the people I'd been working with since '93. But I got them to recall a lot of them.

... with Beavis And Butt-Head—you know, they cut the videos, and they cut the word "fire" out of all of them. They cut stuff I didn't even know was in there. So I'm looking at this episode that makes no sense, that's like 90 seconds long, and it says "Written by Mike Judge." It drives me crazy."

Yeah I read that, it's a good interview. I wish Judge would just team up with MTV, Paramount, or whoever has the rights and just put out a complete collection.

Am I the only person that remembers reading an interview with Judge on AICN many, many months ago that bascially said the same thing? I even mentioned it in another B&B thread, and was pretty much ignored.

Good to see that they're working it out though.

I would have been pissed off if I had ordered this DVD or had paid good money for it on Ebay to only learn it's all edited and censored. Friggin MTV. I agree if they can't release it right, don't release it at all.

If they don't get this sequel going anytime soon, Beavis and Butthead Do College will have to be renamed Beavis and Butthead do the Retirement Home.

I remember when the hype first came I saw one of these on ebay for 500$.Now they are about 20-50 but be careful sometimes they sell dvd-rs with cheap artwork of them. It's a bit weird in England they have released many many more home videos of BnB episodes sometimes unedited such as the sniffing gas from the stove episode and such. Here we are stuck with what we got which has now been released on DVD through Timelife which is nice but I crave more.
