Star Wars changes confirmed? (AKA your Daily Star Wars Thread)

(Hmmm, every thread about the changes to the Star Wars DVDs were eaither missing or locked. Oh well - merge or lock as nessassary)

A friend of mine IM'ed me with this, from Force.net:

According to our sources, Lucasfilm hosted a press day today for long lead publications like magazines and international papers. The focus of the day's events were to give them an exclusive preview of the Classic Star Wars Trilogy on DVD. The official 4-disc set debuts in September with online and short-lead having their preview sometime next month or early August.

While we've yet to hear anything substantial about the days events as of yet, this post is just to let you know that people out there have now seen Star Wars on DVD, they've witnessed some of the changes themselves and we'll all know soon enough all of the intricate details of the release. So far we believe we can confirm Hayden being added to ROJ and Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor in the Trilogy.

Naboo is also included in the ending celebrations and there's another pass on Jabba in ANH.
Keen - it sounds like were a day or two away from Big Breaking News! I cant wait. (and it seems like The Bet may be resolved. Looks like Pants is buying some boxed sets.)

check out hometheaterforum.

the press is sworn to secrecy until 2 weeks before the DVD"s come out.

Anything you hear between now and then is rumor.

Ouch - 144 pages? No thank you. I prefer my flame wars in much smaller doses. Someone over there needs to read up on "locking long threads" in the board's doc's.

That Star Wars thread over there has got to be the most useless thread I have seen in a long time.

Quite frankly, I don't get all the hostility over the individual amaray cover-art. It's like didn't people know that 20th Cent. Fox was going to seemlessly match the style of the two existing prequal covers? It'd be stupid not to. An earlier "press release" said they were. So why the surprise now?

They do that for one reason. So there aren't a hundred different Star Wars threads all over the place. That and they also have a huge number of members. Star Wars threads to pop up with annoying frequency.

None! That's why they have one giant thread over at HTF. Anyone that posts a new thread about the DVDs or the films gets sent to the appropriate thread and the new thread gets closed. It keeps everything neat and clean, and in one place in case everyone wants to reference something.

I have to say I think one big thread for something like Star Wars is a good idea. Not only does it keep all the info in one place, it does seem to foster a sense of community. I read some of the posts at the HTF in that thread every couple days, and even when there isn't SW news, the members seem to be genuinely having fun just hanging out.

As many threads as we get for the Night of the Living dead movies, Evil Dead movies, Dawn of the Dead, Superbit, etc, I think it might be a good idea to keep it all together.

I think we need to make one big thread that explains everything there is to know about DVDs, and then just lock the whole place down.

While I don't like a bazillion threads, 144 pagers are too cumbersome. Especially when you ask a question and get flamed because "That was answered on page 79, FOOL!"

Actually, what they're doing over there is they are keeping the very first post in the giant thread updated whenever they get new info. That way if someone wants to find out any new info or updates, they're just directed to the very first, original post. That way they can find it easily rather than having to scan through a whole bunch of pages.

Go to the very first post in that thread, and you'll see what I mean.

Half the thread over on HTF is folks just chatting and telling jokes.

Heh you guys want some flame wars to laugh about? Go to aintitcoolnews.com, then read the messages underneath any new Star Wars news. The shit starts getting flinged in very humorous ways.

Some of them. Seems to be a whole barrel of "crotch kicking extras." Sort of an inside joke over there.

I don't know if 'humorous' is how I would describe those messages. Maybe more along the lines of 'childish' or 'pathetic'. That one of many reasons why I avoid that site.

Back to the original topic...

For people who hate the changes in the SEs, these additional changes are likely a good thing.

The more he screws around with the films, the more stuff he adds, the more prequel items he sticks in there... the more that "average folk" will notice and be more vocal about wanting the original films. Right now, it's mostly Internet fanboys (and I include myself in that group) who care. But if he starts sticking Hayden or Jar-Jar into the original films, we're much more likely to see the "original" trilogy on DVD sometime in the future.

Regardless of what he puts in these movies, I can't wait until they're released.

GL is shooting himself in the foot, people will probably go for bootleg copies of the original versions - when he could be making more money by releasing them properly.

Who cares at this point. The first cut is the deepest, he already messed around with them, and at this point its just a running joke.

So we know Lucs isn't in it for the money because if he was he would release the originals and make a crap load of cash. he is not in it for fame becaues most people hate him for changing the classics.

So whats the deal???

Most people?!

I'm sorry but a dozen or so grown men crying about a movie does not most people make.

Sounds like the Mr. Peng Challenge thread we used to have over on the Battlefront.com forum. It was a thread in which anybody that wanted to or was in the middle of an on-line game challenge went there to boast about their latest move.

It was affectionately also known as the CessPool TM, and when a "Penger" let their Peng Thread posting style spill over to a 'normal' thread, people would kindly remind them to "get back into the CessPool."

I never got involved in such threads, but I did get involved with what we called the FAQers. We had a FAQ thread and before the forum software had the "sticky" feature, we would keep the thread on the front page by telling an on-going "story" using members' names and some of their rumored, shall I say, extracurricular activities. It was rather hilarious. You would literally crack up reading through the thread.
