Falling Down

I'd be surprised if this title was revisited - even though it's bare bones, the current release is OAR and anamorphic, and I suspect that it's not a big seller. (I personally think it's a dynamite movie, but it's not that popular.)

How is the quality of the video on the current release? I'm thinking of buying it, since I too like the film, but the low price has me wondering if the video quality of it is low as well.

If you like the film, sounds like it'd be $5 well spent.

Thanks for the links! IGN does not like the video quality, but the other two say its passable.... I guess it will do for now, but boy I hate to get caught having to double dip.

I read something on this forum once about a rumor that some of Warner's early titles were "anamorphisized"-that is, they took a non-anamorphic transfer and made it anamorphic by upsampling it or something like that.
Looking at Falling Down, I think it may be one of them. It seems to lack detail, and the video looks a bit strange, as if it's been processed somehow (I know I'm being vague in my description, but surely someone more familiar with the technical side of video can explain it better). Also, there's some edge enhancement. Overall, it's not too bad, but it could certainly use a new transfer. Considering how cheap it is, it's not really worth holding out for a new version that probably won't happen.

GREAT film. I have the UK R2 DVD which is grainy but watchable. I'd be all over an SE at the first opportunity, but definitely not worth anyone holding out for it. Just pick it up cheap and dispose of it if something better comes along - it's not going to hurt the pocket too much.

Very good movie, and one that often gets incorrectly described as a vigilante movie. And indeed was sold and marketed as such - just look at the image on the poster of the R2 cover, with him standing on the rock with a shotgun in hand - when in fact at that point in the movie he had not acquired the shotgun.
The trailer also makes it looks like he shoots up the diner with the Uzi, when he does not.

There are some great quotes in this movie. My fav?
After the drive-by shooting where everyone except Micheal Douglas gets shot and the driver wrecks the car. Micheal walks up to the dying shooter and says:
"You missed."
