Star Trek Release Dates
Here's some Star Trek news from Digitalbits.com. I'm a bit confused about the TNG and DS9 releases on 10/26. Are they putting out every season set for both again on that day?
Also, be aware that retail sources have given us the street dates for the rest of the Star Trek DVDs due in 2004. Star Trek: Voyager - Season Three is due on 7/6, with Season Four on 9/28, Season Five on 11/2, Season Six on 12/7 and Season Seven on 12/21. After Star Trek: The Original Series - Season One hits stores on 8/31, watch for Season Two on 11/2 and Season Three on 12/7. Complete series sets will be released (or re-released) as well - The Original Series (12/7), The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine (both 10/26) and Voyager (12/21). And don't forget, Enterprise (and possibly The Animated Series) is coming in 2005, along with a Star Trek: First Contact - Special Collector's Edition. Insurrection will likely get 2-disc collector's edition treatment later in 2005 as well. Any way you slice it, that's a lot of Trek on DVD.

Complete sets? Those will cost a fortune. Hopefully Paramount also finally drops the price on these things once all the sets are out. There's no way I'm spending $700 for one series of Star Trek.

I think what they mean is that the complete series sets of TNG and DS9 will be released similarily as the complete set of Babylon 5 was released (actually over and over again until the complete 5th-season set was released).
They've done the Buffy and Friends series this way. Release the entire run up to the current release as one individual buy/item.
Are they expensive? Yes, you bet. But for those who put off buying the sets as they're released, this would be a good way to get'em all at once if you have the cash.

I intend to get the VOY sets eventually, but not this year. So if they do something like this next year for it at the end of the ENT run, I may bite the bullet and buy the complete set.

A bit of confusion on my part: Does anyone know if this means they'll be discontinuing the current individual seasons, or will they probably still be available? No way can I drop $700 for TNG, DS9 or VOY all at once. $100 every so often is more doable.
The only reason I ask is because I know they killed off the individual seasons of Python once they released the complete series. I would hate to be halfway through my collection and have to scramble for this stuff on ebay.

I would be VERY surprised if they got rid of the individual season sets. As someone else said, these are just meant to be a quick (and perhaps slightly cheaper) way to get them all at once. And I imagine that they are hoping for people to buy them as gifts during the holiday season as well.

Not sure if you guys saw this, looks like it's around $700 for all three seasons of TOS.
Hard to beat that packaging.

I'm thinking $250-$300 is a much better guess at this point.

Paramount doesn't set retail prices for these, but I've heard they'll be identical to the TNG/DS9 sets. That is, an 'unofficial' retail of $150, with the actual store prices being in the $100 range.

Well, although I was a little pissed off about the release of these season sets so soon after they had finished releasing the original 2-episode DVDs, I decided to sell my 40 disc set on ebay in anticipation of the release of the new sets. And it looks like I will have made money on the deal, since Amazon.com has season 1 available for pre-order for only $84.95!

Two questions...how reliable are "dates given to retailers"...as far as I know Paramount hasn't actually announced anything past TOS Season 1 and the Generations SE...also why do things sell for so much on Ebay?...I see the TOS 40 vol's going for $300-400 yet I cant move mine for considerably less...I dont have an Ebay Seller's account because I sell about 2 or 3 things a year and it hasn't ever been necessary...

Those eBay prices'll start coming down a bit soon, once more people realize that the new sets are coming and the market is saturated with people dumping their 40 volumes.

Because millions of people use eBay, so your item gets a lot of attention. And whoever is willing to pay the most gets it.

That's when the jackels like me will swoop in and fill out their collections dirt cheap.

... and don't forget that if history is any guide, Best Buy will have an exclusive DVD with each of these sets. They typically have 10-20 minutes of info per season. They'll probably include an additional featurette or (praying, praying) the Shatner/Nimoy intros for the season.
