Help me decide what to get...
I have a $20 Borders gift card, and combined with their buy 3, get one free dvd offer, I think I can score a pretty good deal by picking up some Criterions. I've compared prices to Deep Discount, and the Borders deal with gift card comes out on top. Now, I'm thinking about buying The Leopard, Passion of Joan Arc, Fear and Loathing, and then my 4th free (possibly Ali: Fear East the Soul). That's one way I can go. The total there is about 95. I can also get the Fassbinder trilogy, and then 3 of those Criterions for 120.
The real dilemma I face is that I'm not toally sure which I will enjoy more. I just watched the Three Colors trilogy, which was excellent. I have several other Criterions...my dvdaficionado link is
My collection.
What group of movies do you think would be the best selection? Thanks for the help!

My suggestion is go for some Godard, check out Band of Outsiders: Criterion. One of my all-time favorite movies, probably the best starter movie for Godard, or French New Wave in general.
Also the lack of Kurosawa in your collection is blashpemous for a movie fan. Seven Samurai, while not even my favorite film of his, should be mandatory for everyone who owns DVDs, & pretty much every person ever, who I've recommened SS to who has never seen any Kurosawa films, immediately runs out to buy more.
Whatver you choose, I hope you dig it.

i picked up the BRD trilogy when DDD had their coupon sale last Dec.
i watched Maria Braun with some interest, but on the whole the films just didn't do it for me.
maybe they weren't lowbrow enough for me.
The Leopard i was planning to get, until i caught part of it on AMC.
just watched about 10 minutes...eough to get a whiff of the films flavor, and what i saw again didn't light my fire (and i'm a HUGE fan of Lancaster and Cardinale).
Passion Of Joan Of Ark i picked up cheap last year and it looks to be interesting (but then, i like a lot of silent films).
Fear and Loathing- love the book, hated the film, disc sounds like fun though.
based on my experience with Fassbinder so far, i'm not interested in checking out Ali.
ymmv, of course.
