The version released last year has director's commentary, deleted scenes, an interview with the director, stills gallery, interview with actor Ian Hart, director's essay, casting sessions, and a TV feaurette. And the disc was in anamorphic widescreen.
I can't imagine what the new release is going to add to make it worth the double dip.

DVD Talk Gold Edition
Maybe they're gonna remaster the soundtrack for Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS, throw in a shiny insert (with production notes!) and include the soundtrack as a second disc... Or, most likely, it's just a repackaging of the same exact disc with slightly different cover and the label "Special Edition" slapped on there. Either way, I'll pass, since I already have the one that came out last year. It's funny though. I never thought this movie would get released on DVD at all, and here we have two different releases only about a year apart from each other. Crazy.

The cover quote is a bit goofy. Stu died before the Beatles had any success at all.
I haven't watched this in years and was unaware it was already released. I recall it being a pretty good movie but I think I'll rent before I buy.

Actually, Stu was alive when the Beatles had great success in Hamburg - success which they used to get back to playing gigs in England.
The cover of the new edition is the same as last year's DVD except that it says "Special Edition" across the top. I think the VHS release still had better artwork -- which was taken from the movie poster.
Still, a great movie. If you like the Beatles or just rock and roll, its a must.

I lived in the UK when this came out; that's where I bought the soundtrack and got a mini-poster. Both of those had the same image (different font). I'm looking at the CD now and can see that the only difference is they moved the audience picture down for the DVD and also removed five gray fullbody silhouettes based on one of the original photos of the band circa the year this movie takes place.
