Anticipated demand for the Star Wars Trilogy DVD?

Do you see people camping out at retail stores the day before it is released ?

You know how obsesssed the Star Wars freaks are.

I will hope Best Buy has at least a thousand copies at each store.

Do you think they will add a special Best Buy exclusive DVD like they did with Indiana Jones?

I see groups... nay! LEGIONS of hardcore Star Wars fans lining up at their favorite DVD outlets the night before the Trilogy's release date. I see them waiting with baited breath, their lightsabers engorged with anticipation. Oh yes, I see them waiting...
FOR ME TO POOP ON!!!!

Seriously, i hope Late Night w/ Conan O'Brien doiesn't miss this golden opportunity. i already made my pre-order so that's one less person in the gaggle o' geeks.

Stores will offer pre-orders. this will make waiting in line pointless.

Yup, no need to wait in line etc. There'll be enough for everyone.

Well, some of us will be waiting for the *real* original trilogy, but that's another story. One day George will sell me what I want to buy.

The Star Wars freaks are no more obsessed than the Lord of the Rings freaks.

Actually, the scariest people I've seen waiting in line for a midnight DVD release are those wacky Kill Bill fans ....

Preordered my set from Amazon. No need for buying local unless they are offering a substantial discount. Between time and gas....B&M purchases do not make much sense for me.

No reason to pre-order - My local Wal*Mart's price will beat the pants off of any online price (like most new releases). Plus I'll get it ON release day and I can check for "floaters" and case damage.

No need to wait in line - Unless you're getting a bonus item, it's pointless. I guess you can always come back here to brag.... big whoop.

Not likely that would require them to actually have some stock in their stores

Maybe?? How exclusive is it with the quantities that you are suggesting??

I'll pick it up in the Walmart $5.88 bargain bin 6 months later.

how's that? with all the recent busts of releases breaking street date there is no way GL or the studio will let this go except for 1 day before. Especially the way he does things.

I'm actually worried about getting this one. I didn't have a problem getting Indy, but if the demand for these is as great as reports make it out to be, I hope they don't sell out!

I've heard that BB might sell it with the R2-D2 spoof as a bonus disc. Hopefully since they're both released by Lucasfilm, they'll have a good deal where we can get both SW and THX-1138 for a good price.

I'm sure demand will be huge, but in this day and age, I think most outlets will order accordingly.

I remember in the first few years of DVD a place like Best Buy would receive a ridiculously low number of copies of a new title. It was frustrating when they were sold out the very next day. I don't think that's happened to me in the last three years though.

Is Walmart's price going to be under $35.00?? My Amazon preorder is $34.27 after it was all said and done. I obviously used STL and trivia credit.

There will be enought for everybody on release day. Both the suppliers and the retailers realize how huge demand will be. Im sure Best Buy will have atleast a few displays, like one in the front, in the back and on the shelf. Dont worry, if you want Star Wars on the release day, youll be able to find it.

This is the most anticipated dvd release ever. No matter if they are not the original versions. You will find a copy on Tuesday.

You must not even look at prices online to be able to make that statement.

So far wal-mart is selling it for 41.98 and overstock is selling it for 40.99.

I won't compare that with the price somebody got after discounts at amazon since they were discounts.

If for wal-mart to "beat the pants off any online price", they are going to have to sell it for under $30. A couple dollars in savings is not beating anyones pants off.

I think the lines would be a lot longer if we were getting the original trilogy.

Camp out? No.

Take 2 days off of work to enjoy? YES!

I will be off that Tuesday and Wednesday in celebration of this release. I will be at the local Wal*Mart Supercenter (or Best Buy if they are open midnight) at the stroke of midnight to get mine.

On this one, for the first time ever, I say "price-be-damned." The store that can sell it to me FIRST wins...

I expect Star Wars to sell more pre-orders than any other DVD has sold entire units.

The price you quoted for Wal*Mart is probably taken off their website. Like I've stated in other threads, the one by me sells for less than other W*M's. In the Schlinder's List Gift Box thread, I even had to post a photo of my receipt because some didn't believe me when I said how much I paid.

I used to buy pre-orders. Once they started showing up at the door AFTER the release day, I saw no point.

Plus there's the problem (that seems to be increasing) with floaters/scratched discs. Look at the thread regarding Universal's Monster Legacy problem.

Okay, so the price won't "beat the pants off" but it's nice to walk into the store on release day, find a copy that has no floaters and the case is in great shape for a price that's close to or below what one could find online.
