Fox employee discount should make it below the lowest price. No need to wait in line cause it's fox.. they have to have enough.

So far wal-mart is selling it for 41.98 and overstock is selling it for 40.99.

I won't compare that with the price somebody got after discounts at amazon since they were discounts.

If for wal-mart to "beat the pants off any online price", they are going to have to sell it for under $30. A couple dollars in savings is not beating anyones pants off.
I have little doubt that my local Walmart will have this release at a price quite a bit less than anybody else. They had Return of the King for $9.97 for the first couple of days.

I do not plan on buying this dvd set. But if the millions of SWs obsesses do coverge on various retail locations. It might be a good/fun idea for me to videotape the madness,if I have a digital video camera by then.

I also plan to videotape black friday to show the most horrifying day to work retail in America...and show how pathetic and unruly people can be

Now if the originial trilogy were being released, I would be all over that badboy in know time

That's a bet I would take in a heartbeat. I would be very surprised if it's even the best selling DVD of all time. First, it will be more than $40 at most places. Second, the vast majority of fans probably already have several different copies of these movies. It's reasonable to think a few of them will stay home on this. Third, there's a vocal (though I admit perhaps small) contingent of folks who aren't going to buy this regardless because they hope to make a point.

The real question is will the average Joe step up in huge numbers to buy this?

Yeah, this is the most anticipated DVD release ever. People have been waiting years for this one. The Lucas marketing engine will be pumping out ads for months ahead of time.

IF YOU SELL IT, THEY WILL BUY

I think you grossly overestimate the number of fans who will not buy this set because they (1) own the trilogy on vhs or (2) are waiting for the OT. The number of people who are willing to be militant about the OT are totally insignificant next to the power of . . . parents of 8-10 year olds who ask for it for Christmas. The new fans of SW, the kids who told me to shut up when I was laughing my ass of at how bad Phantom Menace was in the theater, easily outnumber the relative handful of people who still live with the illusion that they have enough power over GL to get him to release the OT.

If I were GL, I'd make it my mission to destroy every copy of the OT possible, just to get back at the rabid fans who have shown so much hatred and disrespect over the last 10 years.

You are mistaking the mindset of the average american consumer with the mindset of fanatical nerds here. Most people don't/won't have the first idea what has been changed in the star wars films, or that any changes have been made at all. Most people like Star Wars for cheesey dialogue, bad hair, and space battles, which are all still present.

I think people aren't that forgetful about a movie.

That's like saying most people wouldn't have known they added the cgi Jabba to episode 4.

True, but a lot of people won't care. I burned my original trilogy widescreen thx videos onto DVD so this is really a no brainer and I would advise others to do the same but I know they won't

Ok. The Ring rules and Luca$ sucks.

No waiting in line. I'll be waiting for my copy from amazon, even it will be a few days late as usual.

I thought the first Star Wars was the only movie in the series that had new scenes and was modified or altered from the original version?

Aren't the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi the original versions because I don't think Lucas changed anything in those movies?

It's not that they are forgetful about it. It's just that there is two kinds of people. Those who's childhood was raped because of lucas and those who don't care. the general public falls into the "don't care" area. Cause they really don't.

They accept the newer versions just the way they are now and will eat them up. it's the fans that keep on hanging on to this idea that they can somehow change lucas' mind about releasing whatever version.

Well, I will not buy it right away. I will wait for a real good deal. This will be rereleased in a year or so as part of the 6 movie set after Episode 3 comes out. I have the Star Wars LaserDisc Special Edition Boxset so I really do not need these that bad.

Will proably have it before Christmas though.

Will I get this set? Definately.

Will I stand in line hours before hand? No, it'll be available everywhere. You won't be able to swing a dead cat without hitting a set. I would expect most places that will be selling it will have it for a really good price on opening day to get your business (like there was when Ep 2 came out.)

The only version I own is the non-Special Edition O.T. on VHS, so this will be my chance to see the Special Edition stuff again.

Doubtful.

I had Phantom Menace, Clones and the Indy trilogy about 2 weeks early.

And this will be mine in the same time frame

I'm waiting to see what the Best Buy bonus disk is. If it's worthwhile I'll head over there and pick it up at midnight or first thing in the morning.

Otherwise I'll just wait until the weekend and pick it up from whoever has it on sale for the cheapest.

Yeah, but there is a reason that it has been THE most requested dvd since dvd was born. People will come in droves. I'd also go as far to say less than 1% of those bitching about it being the SE actually stick to their guns and hold out on it.

Some reasons to own, even with owning multiple versions on VHS:
Dolby Digital
Anamorphic Widescreen
New transfer
Special Features

No, there were many many changes to all three films. The third movie even had a whole cartoon SONG scene added.

You can read a comprehensive list of changes to each film here:
