In my local Wal Mart they had one of those big free standing cardboard Kiosks in the aisle for the movie. I'd say about 20% of the discs in that kiosk were widescreen. Going early is definitely recommended if you want WS.

That would be correct. In fact, if not for the 90 minute doc I would say the extra disc isn't worth it.

Each of the other features are shorter than 10min each and one is actually a pitch for you to buy Bret's full line of baseball instruction videos. Pretty tacky. In another he goes on about how it's cool to be part of his son's baseball career, kinda cool but nothing movie related. The last one seems to be excerpts from the doc on the main disc about what's it's like for the kids of people in MLB. Better than the rest since they do a little of trying it into the movie. Thast last one IMO is the only thing outside the 90min doc that I may ever watch again. I could skip the Bret stuff for the rest of my life and never miss it.

Some interesting observations.

I found an easter egg on the Disc 1. On the special features page move the cursor to the right and a baseball player becomes highlighted. Phil Alden Robinson <i>almost</i> confesses as to who is behind the "voice".

RE the bonus disc. The scrapbook although running 90 min, does not include the last five chapters. (script, pic gallery, graham, potpouri, trailer) Also a big minus is the lack of chapters.

Has me debating whether or not to keep the original disc...

WS's were pretty sparse at Wally World - I counted a grand total of three out of 20 or so.

Also, the insert note from the author is truncated in the new version, the older vesion has 2 more paragraphs.. kinda odd

So...the comparison linked above mentions an overly red transfer, while the DVDTalk review doesn't mention it (but does mention other video flaws). Video/Audio matter more to me than sound, so I'd hate to pay the $20 to upgrade to something that isn't noticeably better. Any thoughts from those who have watched the new version?

Keep in mind that I only have a 27" set, but I watched the new one the other night, and to my eyes, it is noticeably clearer and more crisp. Much more natural picture to me. I did notice that the picture was definitely warmer, but it did not bother me at all. At least to me, the new disc is much better...

so is there any need to keep the old version if you have the new one with the bonus disc from walmart?

does anyone know if all copies from walmart will have the bonus disc? i don't have a walmart anywhere near me, and would consider ordering one from their website, but the item description mentions nothing about a bonus disc.

If anyone cares, ive decided to trade in my old version. For the once a yr I would go thru the bonus material, i can live w/out the few missing extras.

Gotta love that extra at Costner's house (or one of them) He's got a pretty good HT set-up - can anyone tell what kind of equipment he's running? :)
