buffy season 6 - do you have a problem?

i can't seem to play the first 3 minutes (the first chapter?) of 'once more with feeling'. it stutters and then skips to the scene where buffy walks into the magic shop ringing the bell above the door.

just me?

I watched it twice, once with commentary and once without, and I didn't have any problems.

Walmart Buffy Season 6 Defects

I've been searching around for forums mentioning problems with Buffy Season 6! I've replaced the dvd 3 times at Walmart in Central PA and it still exhibits the exact same problems.

First off, upon opening the package, I noticed the teeth that hold the dvds securely were broken off. This is not such a big deal, but upon inspection of the discs, I saw numerous fracture-like scratches on the first disc all three times.

If you try to play the first disc, the first episode stutters and eventually freezes right around 1:20:45. The second episode won't even play at all. I haven't checked the other discs for freeze points, but they all have some minor surface damage probably due to sliding around in the box during shipping. What's really iritating is that the discs don't even make it past the FBI warning on my laptop.

To me, it seems like the entire lot shipment is defective. I'm going to try to return it at a different Walmart and see if it's a localized problem or a distribution-wide problem. If that doesn't work, I'm going to demand a refund and purchase it at another retailer. Finally, if all else fails, I'm dropping Fox a call and spreading the word. Unfortunately, nothing will be done about the problem until a large number of customers complain or numerous units are sent back as defective.

a couple of my discs have been a little twitchy as well. At about the 20 minute mark on disc 1 episode 1 it jumped about 20 seconds ahead. This was on my Philips 793C. However, I popped it in my PS2 and my Pioneer DV-563 and it played OK. On disc 2 episode 1 I was searching backwards and it jumped a little and pixelated for a second, but forward playback was Ok throughout. I did not have any problems with Once More With Feeling.
I currently on Disc 5 episode 1 and have not seen any other problems.

Not yet.

But FOR ONCE, I didn't have to return any of the disks! ALL of the disks were completely spotless! No scratches at all!

No problems on my Sony, but iffy on my X-Box. Sometimes it will freeze, go, freeze, go, and sometimes it will play fine.

Couldn't get a couple of the discs to play on my computer, but didn't have any problems on my DVD player.

Just like Season 5, the supposed DVD-Rom supplement doesn't work either.

Fox is known for having glitchy mastering, and their frustrating packaging almost always leads to discs coming off the hubs and getting scratched.

Just thought I'd mention that some people on usenet are also reporting problems of hub damage and glitches.

I had the same problem with my disc. The first two times I played it, it skipped/glitched when it got to the part where she is singing "Going Through the Motions." The third time it didn't happen though. I'm gonna wait and try it a few more times before I bother shipping it back to Amazon.

It shouldn't damage the discs considering I spent between 85-90 bucks for my copy.

I had no problem with my set on my Sony DVP-C650D. I didn't try it on the other 4 players I have. I did have to test disc 1 of Smallville Season 2 last week. It wouldn't read at all on my 2 main players. It finally kicked on but I was pretty ticked off by then. I glad I didn't have that problem 2 weeks in a row.

If you look around, you can find the R2 sets for around $50 - it takes some work, though. (Cdwow just had a coupon-code deal where I got buffy seaon7 for $45.)

Problem on Disc 1!

I couldn't even get through part 2 of the FIRST EPISODE on disc 1. It freezes up just as Buffy's on the tower from the S5 finale. My player is a Philips DVD727. It's a Prog-Scan model, but I have that disabled as I'm watching it on a regular TV.

Might there be a disc replacement program? The only other DVD I've ever had that wouldn't work properly in a player of mine was Memento: SE, only when I tried to play the chronological order on my old 1st-gen Toshiba. Even after updating the firmware, it wouldn't work, and Sony told me to get a new player. So I got the Philips. Am I going to have to keep doing this?

I need to pop these in the player... I didn't see any scratches on them, so maybe they're fine. I got this set at buy.com so I'm REALLY hoping there's not a problem.

I say this because when I pre-ordered it (2 months before it came out) and tried to cancel they said they couldn't guarantee cancellation because it had ALREADY gone to the warehouse. I hate to think what they'd do if it was defective.

my disk 2 didn't work, so I returned it to Best Buy and they gave me a new set, no questions asked... which worked fine.

I never have any problems with disks coming loose in any of my Buffy sets... but then, I always buy them in the store, so I can be sure to pick out the best ones... I don't know why anyone would risk buying a title like this online, just to save a couple bucks.
