This went OOP quite quickly indeed and i think the price must reflect that....i picked mine up at a comparably reasonable price of about $350 although i did receive it as soon as it was released in Japan.

Wow!

And I was debating the other day in BB whether to get the "Evangelion Perfect Collection" R1 release for $150 Canadian.

109 DVDs, according to this site I found. Who would pay that much to watch his confessions? That's a little creepy.

Actually, it makes no difference...the fool would, indeed, still be parting with his money.

This website has pictures about the Neon Genesis Evangelion Renewal boxset and comparison of screen captures between the regular and Renewal versions.

Btw, ADVfilms is going to release Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum Edition starting from this July. It's supposed to be the same master as the R2 Renewal. ADVfilms can't call it Renewal here because they can't release the Renewal version of the movies (Manga Ent currently owns the R1 license).

IIRC, the Renewal set consists of the remastered versions of the the followings, plus tons of extras and goodies.

Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV)
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth (movie)
Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (movie)

The TV series is 26 episodes long.

I didn't buy it. It's still shitload of money at the listed price (typical of Japanese pricing).

If people would pay $40 for a decent version of a movie they like (such as a Criterion release), then $1000 for 26 TV episodes plus 2 movies plus other extras does not seem so outrages.

Most people in this forum probably have thousands of dollars invested in their DVD collections anyway.

It does get expensive for anime fans if they have a wide range of interests.
