thanks for the tip in DDD, I went ahead and ordered. It might be cheaper than $12.22 shipped somewhere else, but frankly, I got more than $12 worth of enjoyment out of the 1st one, so I dont care! I love speed racer and thought the 1st disc was well done. Personally, I like the packaging, and I think its cool that they did something different, but still gimmicky, with each disc released thusfar. Looks like there are 4 seasons of Speed Racer (total, old school and newer version)... hopefully we'll get a similarly cool release of all of em...

I own Limited Edition 52 Episode Boxed Set that was offered at SpeedRacer.com a few years back and now I bought these 2 new FHE releases with the cool packaging.
I've owned ever single release of Speed Racer(both official and bootleg on both VHS and DVD) and these new FHE releases are SO MUCH CLEANER and CRISP than the LE boxed set that I bought for over $300 from SpeedRacer.com .......I know because I played them one after another on my Dad's HD TV and WOW...what a difference. Colors are now brighter, the details and lines are much more defined and there is hardly any dirt on the print. EXCELLENT TRANSFER
For animation this old they did a great job restoring the prints and the sound is mono but thats good enough for me. The only thing that the LE boxed set has over these new FHE releases are the extras. The boxed set has some rare making of footage of Peter Hernandez as well as several interviews with the voice actors. Would I have waited had I known these new cheaper/better quality releases were coming out?? Nope. I bought the boxed set because of I am a Speed Racer nut and I wanted to have a signed boxed set with the whole certificate of authenticity stuff.
The new packaging BLOWS AWAY the LE boxed set. Infact the boxed set packaging is VERY delicate and flimsy and the dvd cases themselves have no inserts.
So go buy the new discs! They are worth it!!
