DVD won't play anymore -- all of the sudden

Hey all,

I recently mailed a DVD to a friend. Before I sent it, i watched it on 2 different players - a real cheap one, and a high-end one. After mailing it, the friend said that they get the "No Disc" error on all of the players (high end) that they try it on. There are no surface scratched on the DVD at all. What gives? I doubt any kind of degeneration or anything could have set in over a 2 day period. Kinda frustrating...

Thanks,

Matt

Sure,

Bufallo 66'. Released by....umm... There's a Universal edition and a Lion's Gate edition. I am almost positive it's the Lion's Gate edition.

Thanks,

Matt

Some DVDs won't play in certain players. I had the same problem as you with a copy of Ginger Snaps that I mailed to a friend of mine. The disc played fine in both of my 'cheap' players, but wouldn't play at all in her higher end model. I mailed her a replacement copy, released by the exact same manufacturer...and that copy played fine. She returned the copy that wouldn't play in her system, and it still worked fine in mine. Ahhh, the mysteries of digital technology.

Well,

If the disc is truely funky like that, then I may have a chance at returning it to the store and simply saying "it's a bad disc, I would like another of the same please" that way there should be no problem. I should maybe try that. I don't even know if bufallo 66 is still sold in stores (lions gate ed.)

I have several DVD players and found some DVDs just won't play on one when it played fine on others. So ask your friend to try on another player. Or else mail back to you and see if it's damaged during shipment.

I have a Pioneer DV-434 and I have yet to get a disc that will not play. Oh, I get one that freezes at chapter breaks or layer changes from time to time, but a chapter skip or a FF usually pushes forward.

It could be that the disc went through alot of heat, or possibly an X-Ray machine (i don't know what the ral names of them are) if you didn't send it media mail.

You should have sent him the content as well, not just the physical disc! Kind of like moving the gravestones and leaving the bodies behind . . . and we all know how that turned out!

It happens sometimes that the DVD player have different regions such as 0,1,2, etc...

No, honestly this happens sometimes on my Toshiba SD-9200 (hi-end, I assume), but I take out the disc and power it off and back on and it works like magic. I assume it did not recognize the initiation file...

Cheers
