How long could you last in "The Contest"?

I think the title of the episode of Seinfeld where they had a masturbation contest was in fact "The Contest", which is what gave me the idea for this thread...

Regardless, if five or six of your DVD loving buddies around here entered into a contest to see who could go the longest without watching a DVD, could you hold out if the ante was $100 per contestant? Or would you not even enter such a contest?

Considering the extreme DVD addictions of some of the people here, as well as the many with moderate addictions, this would present quite a challenge.

Interesting proposal...

I don't think it would be too hard, however, if the contest truly was as you stated it: "...who could go the longest without watching a DVD..."

Because of my job and life in general, I often go weeks without watching a DVD. To go longer than 2 weeks without purchasing a DVD is altogether different.

Ahh yes, if you truly meant "watch" a DVD I could probably go for a LONG time. Unfortunately I just don't get to watch the movies I buy nearly often enough. I could go for months right now without a contest.

If you meant "buy"... well now, that's a different ballgame. I've twice now put my self on a buying "freeze" only to hold out until almost the last minute and go on a spree. I'd be like Kramer in that episode - one walk through Best Buy on the wrong day and I'd be yelling "I'M OUT!!!"

I think you guys are absolutely right...much easier to refrain from watching a DVD than from buying a DVD. Much harder.

Under normal circumstances, it might be a problem. However now with City of Heroes dominating my full attention, blowing off the DVDs for a week or two is no big deal.

Considering that there isn't enough time to watch all my DVDs as it is... the 600 bucks or so isn't worth it for the amount of film watching time i'd waste.

I have a 2 year-old and a 4 year-old who constantly watch Barney and Wiggles VIDEOS, so I haven't gotten to watch a DVD in weeks.

I win

The contest would be much more interesting if you had to refrain from buying or watching a DVD.

And, FWIW if there was money on the line I would beat all you suckas. :P

You'd beat me for sure if it was buying. I could easily go several months without watching (in January I watched 0 DVDs), but it's really hard for me not to buy when catalog titles I want come out (especially since some of them only end up being available for a few months)

I'm sorry, but watching DVDs while masturbating is my life.

I'd never enter a contest like this since it'd be impossible to keep track of everyone (unless everyone stayed in the same room all the time).

The honor system, buddy. Don't play it with people you cannot trust to be honest.
