When did Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring go OOP?
I never read anything about that!?!? I remember reading reviews that said the transfers weren't great so I added them to my Half wishlist to find them cheap. Now I see they are selling for ~$100 for each film! Does anyone know if is MGM planning a re-release of these titles?

I never noticed it going OOP either. Amazon.ca doesn't have it available either.
I know I've seen some around at stores - so it shouldn't be hard to find. I didn't want to pay $20 each for such crappy transfers - so I don't understand who'd pay $100 for them.
Hopefully this OOP status is an indication of a re-release.
These films deserve the best possible treatment.

For those who can accomodate R2/PAL DVDs, these are available from the UK in anamorphic transfers. Amazon and Sendit (formerly Blackstar) both show these at about GBP8 each.

Wow, didn't know these had gone out of print either. I snagged them up as soon as they were released a few years ago. Loved them since I had watched both in my French class at school. Wonderful films.

the films that made me finally spring for a region free player...
yeah, i agree this is great news.
MGM earned a permenant spot on my Sh_t list for their treatment of these two films.
however, i just picked up one of the Bergman discs and was very impressed with the presentation.
if MGM goes back and gives these that kind of loving care- with beautiful anamorphic transfers, then they will have gone a long way toward redeeming themselves in my eyes.
(i don't really need fullblown SEs, though i'm sure there is plenty of material with the films stars being interviewed for foreign media, that could be subtitiled and added to the discs fairly easily)
i opted for the UK versions also, and while they were a good deal better than the MGMs, they still fell short of what these films should be on disc.
w/ Manon, the subs are quite large and somewhat obtrusive.
let's hope MGM realizes there is a huge opportunity here and seizes it.
