"I keep it because of my wife" DVDs
I was going thru my collection today and noticed several DVDs I bought strictly for my wife, and but for her, would be on eBay in a second.
These consist of:
Pretty Woman
Sweet Home Alabama
Sleeping with the Enemy
Shag
My Best Friends Wedding
Stepmom
Family Man
I'm sure many of you have "I keep it b/c of my wife DVDs".

I like all the movies in my collection... even the "chick-flicks"... there are some movies that my wife likes that I don't, but those are in her collection not mine.

My wife got upset at me yesterday (because I insist on keeping the DVDs out of sight - vistors assume they are community property). So she said in a huff "I'm taking my DVDs."
She took about 20 movies including Fatal Attraction, Steel Magnolias, Under the Tuscan Sun, and related crap. After she cooled down, and brought the movies back I told her my collection would be sooo much better without her crappy movies. Of course she was so offended she went out and bought a DVD stand to place her movies.
Last night a cousin of hers dropped by. To make a very long story short, she walked out with five of my wife's DVDs. My wife was not too happy!

Oh yeah.
We have both the Father of the Bride films...which she never watches. But damn if they don't appear on TBS once a month and she HAS to watch.
Other would include When Harry met Sally and Left Behind.

Oh, we bought Mona Lisa Smile the day it came out. Still haven't watched it yet.
And my wife does the same thing indianajdp's does...never watches the DVD but on television with commercials and edited, watches it every time.

Half of our collection is my girlfriends because they were bought specially for her....regardless of if I like them or not. However, keep our films together as there is no need for seperation.

Great topic!
The wife has a small collection of DVDs that she REALLY likes. There are one or two that we both like (i.e. Casino and Suicide Kings), but there are a few that I have no desire to watch (or rewatch):
My Father the Hero
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Gladiator
The Fifth Element
Lilo and Stitch
The Irony of Fate (Russian film)
Moscos Does Not Believe in Tears (Russian Film)
The Diamond Arm (Russian film)
The Crow
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
I know that some of these are films that most guys like, but not yours truly.

Those disappeared over a year ago in the seperation (along with some of the kids' stuff). However, as you can see in my collection, I do like the occassional chick flick . . .

For the most part, I enjoy most movies that my wife likes. The notable exception is Pearl Harbor. I wouldn't have this within 50 feet of my collection if it wasn't for her.

my wife does not like heavy gore or nuns getting it on....so she has her own little collection of about 100 dvds. we used to catalog it all together but now she has her own wall. she requested it so she can find her titles without having to walk into the vault and be surrounded by violence and flesh-eating.
I still have a few of her titles in my folders but I'm working on the on-line library and organizing so it should all be cleaned up soon and moved into her folder. she loves classic comedies and mystery and I have turned her onto some of the tamer giallos. she also, because of me I guess, likes Mario Bava films. religious films are her fave...which I'm not really into...although when she buys a new one...I watch it with her.

Denial is not just a river in Africa. I wonder how many people here "claim" those are my wifes dvds but deep down we all know the real truth. Come on now, Admitting it is the first step to recovery

plenty in ours, so many i can't even thing of all of them. a few are...
My So Called Life
Powerpuff girls sets
Brittney Spears Videos
Can't Hardly Wait
Keeping the Faith
Sixteen Candles
I watch them and like a few, but I wouldn't have bought any of them for myself.

Well since I married the "Queen of the Chick Flick" I have at least 100 titles that are in her "genre." Alls fair in love and DVDs as she has no interest in my "awful gross horror movies." The biggest problem is whenwe rate movies on my Netflix account. I actually have to put a high rating on "Maid in Manhattan!!!??!"
I will watch some of her movies but when she puts on "Uber-chick flicks" like "What Dreams may Come" or "The Wedding Planner." I retire to another room in the house!

Speaking of the chick flick, my wife asks me to leave my movie so I can go get her something at the store, and I come back to find the laptop taken over and Pretty Woman on my TV set, and my DVD player turned off.
At least its HBO Signature and not TBS.

Holy Smokes!
Sounds to me like "madcougar" lives amongst a family of kleptomaniacs.
Maybe it'd be a good idea to leave the "security tags" on each DVD (in a non-conspicuous locale) and invest in a Wal*Mart type of alarm system that will sound an ear-piercing siren which would wail away as each of your thieving relatives attempted to leave the premises with 16 pilfered discs under their coats!
Then, call Kojak for the "pinch".

my older sister liked to take my things so her two monsterous children could destroy them and/or lose them. Including a few dvds that came back to me scratched to hell, and video games that I still haven't seen again (years later). Her youngest even stole a stapler from my room. What the hell is a 4 year old going to do with a stapler??? But then college took me and my things 2000 miles away, so all is good. But I'll always miss my SNES games

my wife is all about the Merchant Ivory period pieces and Jane Austen stuff....Room with a View, Pride & Prejudice, Victoria and Albert, persuasion....none of which I would ever own in a million years. She doesn't ever actually buy any herself though and is way out of the loop....she keeps asking my why I haven't picked up Howards' End yet too

Did you ever stop to consider how much crap your partner thinks YOU have? All things considered, I think the people being discussed in this thread are far more patient and acception that those posting in it.
