Text Commentaries?

Which DVDs have text/subtitle commentaries?

I think Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and the 3 Back To the Future movies do. What else?

The Abyss has a rather humorous one that I enjoyed.

All the Star Trek special editions. Also Free Enterprise has a "cultural references" text track.

GHOSTBUSTERS has "subtitled production notes".

Not quite, but close...Fantoma's disc of Alejandro Jodorowsky's Fando and Lis has an audio commentary by the director, whose heavy accent makes subtitling a neccesity. Its almost preferrable to watch the movie in Spanish, with the commentary subtitles.

Okay, Predator SE has a text commentary. The R1 will have one also.

A few years back you could get a Star Wars Ep. 1 text commentary from the DVD-ROM content.

There are more but gotta go.

Not Another Teen Movie has a "pop up video" type feature explaining some of the jokes. It was fairly entertaining.

All the Doctor Who discs have the subtitle commentary track - pretty entertaining and well done, too.

Also, the Excel Saga discs have Pop-up notes - and believe me, that show NEEDS notes about the in-jokes and cameos!

The Die Hard SEs all have a subtitle trivia track (i.e. text commentary).

I love this feature and hope to see more of it.

I've got the R4, don't recall this though. Is it not on the R4?

Bionicle: The Mask of Light has a "Pop Up Video" style text commentary. (Methinks its for the parents as kids understand the entire Bionicle universe without need for reference data.)

They take up so little space that they should be included on superbit type releases as well as regular dvds.

More movies should have them.

Spider-Man has the pop-up style notes. Almost Famous: the Untitled Cut actually has the commentary itself subtitled, which I don't think I've seen elsewhere.

The Time Machine remake, with Guy Pearce, has that too. I wish more DVDs did.

Its on the R4 SE.

Informational Subtitles

These are transcripts of snippets from interviews with various crew members about casting decisions, special effects, editing, and so forth. While they are not nearly as interesting as the ones that appear on most Doctor Who releases, they do make a nice adjunct to the Audio Commentary.

Jungle Holocaust and the Canadian version of Irreversible do as well, but the commentaries on those discs are not in English, so it makes sense.

If this is relevant, I have two anime DVDs with subtitled Japanese commentary tracks: Revolutionary Girl Utena the Movie, and volume 10 of the Utena TV series.

All of the Futurama (UK version) sets have the commentary subtitled (in multiple languages, too).

Well, if we want to get into subtitled commentaries, then there are so many. The one that surprised me the most was on the Gen-X Cops HK DVD. It's in Cantonese but with English subs. Very few non-R1 DVDs have English subs on the extras so I was glad to have this. (Not that it matters to anyone here, but the Heroic Duo R3 from Korea has the director's commenary (in Cantonese) subtitled in Korean...) Anyway...

On topic:
Heartbreakers has a pop-up track.

(Does the Made teleprompter commentary count as text commentary? There were many nice words on that track. )
