At some point I thought that I had read that the R4 transfer of Vertigo was not a true anamorphic one, but perhaps converted from a 4x3 transfer? But I can't find the source right now ...

If you're region free however, I think that it's the R4 versions of Psycho and Vertigo that are anamorphic...

The R4 release is anamorphic, but is misframed and has WRONG color timing.
The R1 DVD just lacks 16x9 enhancement, while keeping the CORRECT framing and color timing.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
The R4 shares the same transfer as the R1, but it's zoomed-in anamorphic taken from a 1.33:1 frame. So the detail is no better, and in fact, the R4 looks a little worse due to the zooming.
